Disclaimer: Not mine some more. :)
Ryan Evans likes exotic things.
He likes his clothes to be fashionably exotic. Something to be noticed by everyone (although having a good sense of fashion, just alone, was likely to get you noticed in East High). He has shoes composed of crocodile, vests made from Peacock down, and the best faux snow leopard fur money could buy (wearing fur was so out of style these days!).
He likes exotic colors. No simple black, white, and grey outfit for him, and an outfit that was completely beige was out of the question! If it doesn't pop, it isn't him. If it isn't him, he doesn't wear it. He always enjoys it if the name of the color had electric or neon in front it.
He likes exotic shows. He likes when they were set in far off locations like The King and I. He likes when they included a melting pot of races and cultures such as in Rent. Or about sensitive subjects like those in Spring Awakening.
He likes exotic food. He likes Spanish paella, Moroccan couscous, and is adept with a pair of chopsticks. When turning to ice creams, though, that was another story altogether. Ryan doesn't eat consumer brand ice cream. He is not head over heals for Ben & Jerry's, Häagen-Dazs, or Breyer's.
No, he is a fan of gelato.
The flavors he picks for gelato always depend on his mood. Sure he eats more traditional flavors like chocolate or pistachio, but that was only when his father was there.
When he was with Sharpay, who always picks something pink-doesn't the girl know of a different color, he often wonders-he has to pick a color that accessorizes with hers.
He always feels free to pick whichever flavor he wants when he is with his mother. Ryan generally picks a flavor or combination he has never tried before, knowing that his mother would trade her banana gelato with him, if he doesn't like his gelato.
Ryan when thinking about an upcoming theatre audition, "musicale," or anything revolving around the theatre, he always turn to passion fruit gelato.
Whenever he is having a problem with authority figures such as Darbus hindering his creative processes with her own inane attempts at directing a show, Sharpay with her harpy ways, or MTV for rejecting his audition tape for the Real World- "the Man" as he like to refers to them all in his head-he turns to mango.
Guava he saves for when he is sick. Starfruit is when he has had the best of days, or right after a performance. He eats kiwi when he is procrastinating and not doing his homework or rehearsing lines like he ought to. Pomegranate is when he is feeling daring, like eating lasagna while wearing all white daring. Frutti di Bosco gelato is one of his favorite treats when he is feeling funny. Lemon is what he eats when he is upset, papaya when he is distressed, and pineapple is for when none of the above applies.
Orange gelato is the most special of all. Orange is when he is thinking about a certain boy who is more often than not holding a giant, inflatable, orange globe in his hands. A certain boy who doesn't dance, doesn't like Phantom of the Opera (not like Ryan can really blame him), and probably doesn't eat gelato.
Ryan doesn't know this for sure, but when he is alone, hidden by night, and contemplating various objects and events while he is drifting off to sleep, he imagines that when they kiss the other boy tastes of oranges.
