Taken Before Time

Hermione Granger sighed. She placed the bouquet of white flowers on the ground, and a sealed envelope underneath it.

It contained the start of everything, written in her unique slanting handwriting. They say at the end, people looked back to the beginning.

Reminiscing.

"Just memories," she whispered sadly. "All memories. Nothing but what was past."

She ran a finger over the name carved into the concrete. Her other hand reached up to brush a stray tear from her cheek.

"It's been seven years," she murmured. "Little Rose is fine, just missing her daddy."

On the last word, Hermione broke down completely. Tears slid down her cheeks, seemingly endless, but still, only one hand wiped them away, the other still caressing the name.

Nothing had changed. She hadn't moved on from seven years ago. She was still in the same position in the cemetery, mourning the same loss, worrying over the same anxiety.

Life hadn't dealt her a happy hand. She had, was, and always would be, trying to make do with the best she had, but sometimes, it just wasn't enough.

"I wish you didn't have to go," she cried to the headstone. "I wish I wasn't alone."

She let her tears flow a little longer, before finally steeling herself to face the rest of the day.

"But I'm not alone," she told herself. "You're still here, with me. You always were. You promised you'd never leave."

She sighed again as she touched the white envelope.

"I love you," she whispered. "I always have, and always will."

She stood up and ran one more gentle finger over the name, before walking out of the cemetery. She looked back once more, to see his headstone surrounded by white flowers.

AN: This was a one-shot I was writing on the train. The only reason I posted this up was because of LittleMissWesley's Sadness Challenge. I had another drabble before this one, which was showed the beginning of their romantic relationship, and that was what Hermione had written and put inside the envelope. I'm still deciding whether or not I should post that one up.
