Jareth never was quite sure what exactly had made him fall in love with the girl.
Maybe it was her love of a story that, to most, was really nothing at all.
But it was his life, and he was real, to the few and far between that could believe.
And yet, time and again he was dismissed as a passing thought. His power, his people, his labyrinth, his very existence were to mortals at best a charming fairy tale and at worst a childish lie, a dream that could never be reality and was therefore deplorable in its temptation.
But to Sarah, his story was everything.
He and his were her fondest dream, a fixation of black and white in a murky grey world she stubbornly refused to accept. She was truly still a child, and nothing is more innocent and pure and captivating as a child's whole-hearted belief.
She was very different from all the rest. In some ways, it was bad, because she wrapped herself in gossamer so that she had fairy wings and was thus exempt from having to understand everyone else's feelings. To her, she was the ultimate right, and it was her ultimate weakness.
She had always been a good girl, deep down, but she still had lessons to learn.
And he knew it better than anyone—things are not always what they seem.
So he'd teach her, because he loved her enough to break her heart kindly if it meant she could stand on her own in the end.
DISCLAIMER: Sadly, I don't own. I wish, haha! Hope you enjoyed, and have a nice day~
