Chapter 1: The Meaning of Dislike
"We don't like strangers around here." The barkeep said.
"That's OK." Merlin answered. "Being liked is probably overrated anyway."
"We don't like people with smart mouth's around here." The barkeep said.
"I don't mind. Please, don't get worked up on my account." Merlin answered breezily.
"We don't like you." The barkeep said. He took out a greying mug and started to wipe it clean with an equally grimy cloth.
Merlin sighed with annoyance.
"You mean, 'I don't like you.' To say that 'we' don't like you implies that you're speaking for more than one person."
"The barkeep kept wiping his mug, unimpressed."
"At least I tried." Merlin muttered to himself.
