It was a typical Friday night at the Lopez residence, Santana was sitting on the couch squished in between Brittany and her little sister Sierra, as they watched Aladdin. It wasn't exactly Santana's idea of the perfect Friday evening, but Brittany had suggested they should visit their families for the weekend, and what Brittany wanted, Santana happily provided. Even though Brittany was with someone else, Santana still did all she could to make Brittany happy, even if it ruined her own happiness in the process.
"Do you believe in true love and happy endings San?" Sierra asked as her eyes remained glued to the TV set.
Brittany moved uncomfortably in her seat at the question, and Santana looked at the beautiful blonde beside her, who looking down at her recently acquired engagement ring with a pained expression as though the metal was burning through her skin. Santana took in a shaky breath.
"I do believe in true love, and happy endingsā¦"
"But I don't believe that I am one of the people who will get to experience it." Santana added as she looked down at her lap, feeling two pairs of eyes piercing through her from either side. A frown appeared across the little girls face.
"Why?" Sierra asked confused.
Santana looked up at met Brittany's gaze which was full of pain and confusion, Santana soon broke the gaze and looked at Brittany's engagement ring before turning back to her sister who was looking up at her expectantly.
"Because the person who holds my happy ending already found theirs with someone else." Santana replied quietly, her eyes dark and empty as she spoke. Santana felt Brittany tense at her side, and saw the blondes hand move to take her own, but stopped mid way when she saw the ring.
Santana frowned at her sister's reaction. Sierra looked up at Santana with a smile that looked like she knew the secret to the world.
"You're wrong." Sierra stated firmly as she took some popcorn in her hand.
"Excuse me?" Santana asked stunned, a frown of her own creeping up.
"If that person is your true love, then they can't find their happy ending with someone else. YOU are their happy ending." Sierra said matter-of-factly, her eyes once again glued to the TV set.
Brittany nodded to the statement subconsciously and realized why the ring seemed so foreign on her finger. Brittany looked up, blue eyes meeting brown. The eyes Brittany looked into at that moment, were the same eyes of the person who held her very own happy ending.
