He keeps an eye on her always, Rogue's safety always at the forefront when going into combat. He's startled though one day to realize that the pain that used to slash at his heart when feeling her eyes glance longingly at the master of magnetism, has also slashed at his love for her.
The pain is now more of a dull ache. With time he realizes that the dull ache is the echo of his distressed ego, not some kind of heartbreak… he doesn't think he minds that too much.
Frenzy tells him over several shots of tequila the reason Erik doesn't go to Anna's side when she's injured… apparently the strong don't need an audience to their weakness. The burn he feels when snorting the alcohol is the only thing diminishing his amusement.
One week after the team retrieved Polaris, Rachel and Alex from space, he finds Lorna alone in the kitchen. With an inviting smile she tells him she hasn't thanked him properly for the save. It doesn't take a lot more to find their way to Remy's room. When he hears her shout his name he almost shushes her before stopping himself, big smile gracing his features. He makes it his mission to make her scream his name in pleasure at least a couple more times.
Judging by the murderous look Erik throws him over breakfast he deduces that the phonic isolation in the house is not the best it could be.
One day they're fighting sentinels, the next day they're choosing sides. Despite the recent close collaboration, Magneto steps away from Cyclops. Rogues also makes a bee line towards Wolvie's team. He hides his smile at the surprise on Anna's face when he's one of the first to stick with Scott. He also gets a grateful nod from Slim, a warm hug from Stormy and a raised eyebrow from Logan… "I ain't never been good at the killing business Logan… plus it looks like you already have all the heavy hitters you're gonna need" he answers with a shrug.
He's leading Kitty through the underground vents maze below the Santinel assembly complex. Storm, Northstar and Dani are waiting for them outside, ready for an intervention should things go south. There's no need for that as the extraction job runs smoothly. They now have enough evidence to effectively burry the program under a huge pile of legal crap. He also made sure that the R&D funds will never see a mutant target ever again. As they take off he knows he's smiling. The adrenalin rush is quieting down and since a very long time, he feels really good about his life.
