A/N: This is just an idea I had that gets rid of the seventh season Lorelai and Chris marriage. Takes place after ultimatum scene.
Disclaimer: I don't own Gilmore Girls.
Chapter 1, Chris has changed:
Lorelai was sitting in her Jeep. Sobs were shaking her as she leaned her head on the steering wheel. She turned on the car as she sniffled. She started to drive; always moving forward helped her forget her pain, but she needed to talk to someone. "Chris," she thought, "Chris will always love me." Yes, Chris always caused her pain, but she could not feel anything. She was numb.
***********************************One Hour***********************************
The door opened. "Hey Chris…uh…I'm having a really bad night and…I don't want to be alone," Lorelai said.
"Come in" Chris said. "Can I get you something? Water, soda?" As he glanced back at Lorelai he saw her holding back tears. He walked over and gave her a hug. She looked up into his eyes and drew him in with their electrifying blue color. They kissed, drew back slightly, and then they deepened their kiss. Still in each other's embrace, they walked towards the bedroom. Chris fumbled with the zipper on the back of her dress. Lorelai's hand brushed against Chris' face. The engagement ring was surprisingly warm against her ice cold hands. Chris pulled away.
"The ring, Luke, you're engaged," Chris said.
"Not anymore."
"What," Chris pulled away. "Wait, let's talk about this Lor," Chris said as he lead her back into the living room.
"Chris, this is unlike you."
"Well, I have changed. You always told me to grow up and be more mature. Now I have finally changed….We're going to talk about this. What happened?"
With those words, Lorelai began to shake with sobs. "I love him but…he's busy with April, his daughter" Lorelai sobbed.
"Luke has a daughter?" Chris looked perplexed.
"Yes she is 12 years old and he just recently learned she existed…I made a commitment to him, but he can't make it happen. He is pushing me away."
"Whoa. Any guy who pushed you away is an idiot. How about you go to sleep. The guest room is right over there. We can talk more in the morning."
"Okay, goodnight, Chris"
Chris watched as Lorelai shut the door behind her. As soon as the door was closed he sprung up, grabbed his coat and keys, and left.
Chris quickly walked toward the door. He pounded with his fists, and Luck opened the door. "Why the hell did you let her go?" Chris screamed pointing a finger into his chest. Luke turned around and walked into his apartment. He did not have the strength to fight Chris. It was as though when Lorelai left earlier that night she took a pig part of him with her leaving him empty. Luke's eyes were red and puffy and his hair was a mess.
"You are an idiot. You know that," Chris continued.
"Go away," Luke grumbled.
"I know you love each other. How could you let her go?"
"I love her more than anyone could understand," Luke countered but was still weaker that his usual self. "I waited years for her, but I have to be a dad. That is just something you couldn't understand." Luke began to gain more strength as he became protective over Rory. He always felt he was her father not Christopher.
"Hey, don't bring my past mistakes into this. I've changed. You can be there for both Lorelai and your daughter."
Luke just sat in silence.
"Now tomorrow, you go to her and make things better," Chris said and walked toward the door. He stormed off slamming the door.
Luke sat there stunned. He couldn't believe what happened. "He is right," Luke admitted to himself. "Damn it he is right. I hate him but he is right." Luke walked over the his empty and cold bed as he drifted to sleep thinking about what he could say to Lorelai to make things better.
