"You stupid prat!" Lily yelled as James walked into their common room.

They'd been sharing the Heads common room for three months now, and so far it had been going pretty well. It had actually been going unexpectedly well, until now. James and Lily had almost become friends in those three months, and now it was over. James opened his mouth to speak, but had to duck to avoid being hit by the shoe Lily had thrown at him.

"Why are you angry Lily? Last time I checked we weren't dating, so you don't deserve to be this angry," James threw back at her.

Lily glared at him, "I'm not angry at you for kissing Marlene! Wh- why would you even think that!"

James threw his hands in the air, sighing and answering "I don't know… Maybe because you saw her kissing me and stormed off, and now you're yelling at me and throwing things."

"Maybe I'm mad at you because I do all the Heads' work and all you do is pull pranks with your friends and hex innocent people," she countered, knowing it wasn't true. She really was mad at him for kissing Marlene. She'd never been so angry in her life as she had been when she'd seen them in the corridor, pressed up against a wall.

James, knowing her well after all of these years, finally saw through her lie and realized what she was mad about. "I think I know why you're really mad, Evans," he said, walking towards her slowly.

"Oh yeah? Please, do inform me," she said, trying to act calm. She was anything but calm on the inside. James had advanced, and she in return had back up as far as she could. Lily took a deep breath as her back hit the wall and she braced herself against it.

James had backed her up against the wall and they were now close enough that their foreheads would touch if he leaned in. "I think you're angry because you like me, and you don't want anyone else kissing me," he said, looking down at her with a glint in his eyes.

"Wh- wh… Where did you get that idea?" she stuttered out, her green eyes moving up to look at him.

"I guess I'm just a genius," he said with a smirk.

"We-well you're totally off the mark, Potter."

"Really? Then why haven't you forced me to move? We're a little close for people who are supposed to be friends, well maybe not even friends."

"I- well, I.. Umm…" she said, speechless and breathless. She titled her head up to look at him, but realized her mistake too late. His gaze was magnetic and she found it impossible to look away.

James leaned his head down, pressing his lips to hers.

Pulling away a few minutes later, James had a lopsided grin on his face. Lily stood breathless, leaning against the wall. James searched her face, trying to discern her thoughts and if her next action would be to hex him. He was taken by surprise when she pulled him down to her by his collar and kissed him.

Pulling back from her he grinned. "You could have just told me."

"I- well I thought you'd lost interest in me after you stopped asking me out," she said sheepishly.

"I thought I should give you some space and let you see that I'm not that immature, arrogant, prat that used to ask you out twenty times a day," he told her, reaching up to tuck a strand of her fiery hair behind her ear.

"I know you're not like that anymore. I'm sorry for calling you a prat earlier… And I'm sorry for throwing my shoe at you," she said with a small grin.

"So I take it you won't mind if I ask you out now?" he asked. She shook her head and he took a step back.

"Will you go out with me Lily?"

"Yes James."
