Disclaimer: I don't own CATS
Old Deuteronomy loved Grizabella. He had loved her since they were newborn kittens. As leader of the Jellicle Tribe he often showed favor to Grizabella. Sometimes the Jellicles would see her walking arm and arm with him. But as Old Deuteronomy looked at Gizabella he noticed something about her. His friend was no longer a young cat. She no longer had a spring in her step.
Old Deuteronomy could see she was tired. He could see that she wasn't walking well.
"I must wait for the sunrise," she had said, "I must think of a new life. I mustn't give in."
He knew what she was thinking. He could always read her thoughts. But letting her go meant losing his best friend.
"This year," Old Deuteronomy said, "I have chosen Gizabella to go to the liar."
It was hard for him to do this. He loved her but he couldn't keep her there. As far as he was concerned doing the right thing was about listening to your heart instead of being selfish. He escorted her to the liar. With a heavy heart he waved goodbye. But it wasn't the end as he was there when she was reborn.
