Theta Sigma has birds in his head.

I have come to know them all, and there are many that roost and fly behind the windows that are his eyes. I see them when he thinking; he is lost in their world. He perches on chairs, flits about as if his feet don't know the ground.

He isn't like the rest of the world; he isn't even like the rest of the Deca. So many people are full of wool and cobweb, honor and tradition. At least we, the Deca, think. We're the brightest, cleaning out the cobweb that could ensnare the fresh new thoughts before they go anywhere.

Theta is full of fresh thoughts. Thick cobweb cannot grow in such a windy place as his head, cleaned by the beating of many-colored wings.

Ushas' thought is all empirical, mired in the multitudinous minutia of nature; she is scientific.

Magnus is strategic, historical; Millennia and Rallon think of love; Drax and Mortimus are glee and mischief and tinkering; Vansell and Jelpax philosophize and politic.

My mind is full of drums.

Theta Sigma has birds in his head.

I know his birds, his moods, and I know how he flies—but I cannot follow after. I watch him from the ground.

I hold him when the sky is too much.

In the morning he wakes with twitters and flutters, stretching his limbs to take flight again in the daylight. He folds his wings only when his adventure is complete. Sometimes he carries me along with him, as much as he can.

Sometimes he doesn't.

He chooses his selves—kingfisher, lyrebird, eagle, owl, wren—each day a new bird—lark, cardinal, finch.

New name: Birdbrain; I cannot call him down.

Some said—the teachers, the wise ones: "Time tells what we weigh. His feet will reach the ground." I don't think they're right.

I am not sure I want his feet to touch the ground. Who am I to ground him? Not even age can cage him; not even time can hold him.

Theta Sigma has birds in his head.

AN: I had to read the poem that inspired this for class, and myself and a friend immediately thought of the Doctor. Check it out! It may even help in understanding this little piece of writing. Unbetad. I always like to know what people think so:
