Mina smiled brightly into the sunset. She had recently married Jonathan Ford, and returned from a honeymoon in Hawaii. She propped up her chin with her arms and leaned over the balcony.
"John," she called as her white dress fluttered in the breeze. There was no reply. "Jonathan," she called, more urgently.
She stepped into the house just as someone knocked at the door three times, briskly. She walked to the front door. A little boy stood there with a sweet expression on his face .
"Young man," said Mina, "What are you doing here?"
But the boy simply smiled. "May I come in?"
"All right-"
The boy's innocent expression turned into a hideous, heaving, grotesque one. He lunged at Mina.
Mina shrieked. She slammed the door closed. No sound came. Mina heaved a breath. Who was this boy? She sank against the door. And where was Jonathan?
Mina was jolted forward when a great big dent appeared in the door.
"I can come in," said the sweet boy's voice.
Another dent. In the shape of a twisted, horrifying face. The face had tiny marks in the gaping hole of it's mouth.
"I can," came the voice.
Mina raced up to her room, stumbling over her skirt. She locked herself in it. She looked out the window-and saw the face. She screamed in horror. The creature opened it's mouth wide. Long, pointy, white fangs grew from it's mouth. Mina had watched enough horror movies to know what this was.
The creature was a vampire. Mina shuddered at the thought.
Out of nowhere, it began to rain. The sun set even faster. The window exploded. The creature grinned at Mina. "Thank you for letting me in," he said politely.
He advanced toward Mina, who was frozen in place.
"I really appreciate it."
Mina unfroze and lunged for the lock.
The creature's sweet smile vanished. "I don't think so."
faster than Mina thought was possible, the vampire darted out and grabbed Mina by the arm. Mina shivered at the cold, strong grip.
"I haven't had a warm meal in days," the thing rasped. "Do you have any food?"
The thing's grip tightened. Mina heard something howling in the distance.
"I think you do," it continued. "You have plenty of food. And drinks."
"Why be selfish?" She heard in her ear. Mina struggled.
Mina kicked it in the shins. The creature's expression dropped to a surprised one-then an angry one. It's steel grip loosened for a split second.
That was all Mina needed. She raced out the door as the creature grabbed at her skirt and promptly tore a piece off. The vampire hissed.
"You are nowhere safe outside," screeched the creature. "My brothers know. Once one is welcome, all is." Mina stopped cold and felt the cold, steel fingers on her neck.
She heard small voices coming outside the window. "Brother, let us in-we need her blood-share, share, share-" Mina couldn't hear anymore, her pulse beating so loudly it blocked out all other things.
She felt the prick of long, sharp fangs scratch her skin. She tried to jerk away, but those steel fingers held her tight.
"Please!" She begged. "Let me see Jonathan before I perish!"
The fangs sunk into her neck. A tiny drop of blood leaked out of the wound and the creature licked the single drop.
"You are mine now," he whispered to the gasping, dying woman.
Then Mina sank to the ground.
