Breathless. No words, no actions, nothing she could do.
From the beginning it was how he made her feel. She remembered the first time she saw him, walking across a crowded ballroom. The playful, easy smile on his face caught her attention but when he turned it towards her she was done. The music and the voices of those around her faded away, the faces became fuzzy. She couldn't breath and she couldn't answer when he asked her to dance.
It happened again the day he proposed. The idea of spending her life with the man she had come to love in such amount of time made her feel dizzy. He seemed to understand when she could only nod in response.
It was the way she felt about a month after their marriage when she realized she'd been tricked. He had her money, but he also had her heart and it killed her to know that he didn't care. Didn't know that every night when he left her room she cried herself to sleep with silent sobs that he would never see.
She felt it again, months later on the day he professed his love to her. She couldn't speak, her joy made her lightheaded.
When they made love for the first time she learned that breathlessness could easily become her favorite feeling in the world. She desperately tried to gulp in fresh air through the haze of heat and passion that surrounded their tangled bodies.
Now after close to 30 years of marriage she feels it again. Her body, already weak from her illness, is struggling to take in air. Then she hears him. With a woman. She knows what it means and she cannot believe that he would do this to her when she is so close to being breathless.
AN: I've been reading fan fiction forever but this is my first foray into actually writing it. I'm not sure if I like this one very much but I figured I had to start somewhere. Please, please review if you liked it or not. I could really use some feedback. Also, thanks for reading!
