DANNY'S SURPRISE.
Steve McGarrett's second in command Danny Williams was never late for work. He usually arrived minutes after Steve, but late he was this morning. Steve wasn't a hard taskmaster. He didn't mind Chin being late. after all fighting for the bathroom with 8 kids was no easy thing. Kono would usually get in at 7.40 and Jenny the secretary at 8.00. It was just unusual for Danny to be late.
Steve opened the blinds and set the coffee percolator on. He couldn't start work without his morning coffee fix.
Danny came rushing in the office five minutes later.
"Sorry I'm late Steve."
"Ok Danno, I'm not gonna jump over 5 minutes, oversleep huh, he said with an am used look.
"No, Kalena didn't feel well. I told her to stay home. I phoned Che to tell him.
Danno was engaged to Kalena Aneko an Hawaiian girl he had met on a case almost a year ago. She worked with Che in forensics and no one was more surprised than Danny himself when he found himself drawn to her. His first real love Jane had been brutally murdered 3 years previously. Danny was so devastated he almost quit was Steve, his mentor and closest friend that got him through the trauma and heartbreak. Danny became like Steve and devoted all his time to work, save for the moments when he went surfing, the only thing that could ease his tormented mind at the time.
Kalena was a strong and matter of fact girl with a sunny nature. The complete opposite of Jane who had been sweet and gentle. She had eventually won Danny's heart, she loved him passionately and made him happy at last. He had proposed only 3 months previously. The whole team were delighted, especially Steve, He knew Kalena was just what Danno needed.
Steve looked up, his brow creasing to a frown, "Something she ate, Danno?" he questioned.
"No we both ate the same thing last night and I am ok."
"Well you have a cast iron stomach Danno." he said smiling.
"Now we have closed the Fieldman case, it should be pretty quiet today Danno, why don't you go back home to be with her. If anything important comes up I will call you."
"Thanks Steve, but are you sure, what about my reports?"
"Danno just go. Hope she feels better, give her my love.
Nothing untoward occurred during the day, they spent their time doing their reports on the case they had just closed.
At 3.30 Danny came rushing into the office. His face was flushed and he was breathless.
He rushed into Steve's office practically dragging chin in with him, Kono followed.
"What on earth…, Danno sit down." said Steve.
"Chin I,.. I 'm gonna need your help, Steve how do you feel about being a Godfather.?
Steve looked incredulous, realisation dawning.
Danny punched the air. "Yes I.m gonna be a dad, Kalena just got the results of a pregnancy test."
Chin and Kono clapped Danny on the back.
"You got the right person here for advice." said Chin.
Steve went over to Danno and put his arm round his shoulder saying quietly.
"Danno that's the best news ever, I'm very happy for you." he said a lump forming in his throat. He buzzed Jenny,
"Have you got any of that left over special from last Christmas love, I know we shouldn't drink on duty, but this is something special and I am making an exception, after all I am the Boss."
