"The thing about not having something- It makes you desperate." – Leah Clearwater.
She was alone again.
Focusing on her breathing, Leah forced her legs to bring her forward. She was well past La Push now, but stopping was not an option.
Running was a more than a hobby for her; running was a way of forgetting. When Leah Clearwater ran, all she could focus on was her breathing and the way her feet pounded with the frantic beat of her heart.
She knew that running away was a show of cowardice. But if it made her forget; she would gladly do it.
This time, it was her fault really.
Leah Clearwater knew the consequence of letting someone venture too close to her heart. The first time she had let Sam in, he had punctured her heart with a giant, gaping hole, leaving nothing inside but bitterness.
The second time she had opened her heart to Jacob Black, thinking that he could fix her broken self. She was sadly mistaken. All Jacob Black managed to do was to puncture another hole into her heart; leaving her broken all over again.
She hadn't stopped to think about it. The minute she watched Jacob Black's expression as he scooped up Reneesme into his arms, she had phased and ran.
She was a coward; but she had rather be a coward than feel the unbearable sense of betrayal all over again. If running could numb these emotions, she would keep running and never stop.
Leah.
She felt a snarl rise up her throat.
Fuck off, Jacob Black.
Why are you running away? Damnit, Leah, I need some answers!
Why don't you ask yourself if you have those answers?
She dug her claws deeper into the soil, urging herself to go faster. The wind whipped around her ankles painfully as she quickened her speed; both of them practically a blur as Jacob rushed to keep up with her.
I have no idea what this is about, Leah, but will you stop-
No idea? You have every idea, Jacob Black.
I need to know, Leah, please.
Please, I know what happened, Jacob. You imprinted on that spawn.
What makes you think I did?
Leah felt her heart sputter to a stop. Her legs stopped pounding as she felt herself tumble to the ground; her head woozy as she struggled to get up.
But, but…
You just assumed. His voice oozing cockiness and even if she couldn't see it, Leah could swear that he had that smug, infuriating grin on.
Bastard, she spat as she pushed herself up.
Phase back. There's something I need to give to you.
Leah felt a blush rise up her cheeks. In her haste, she didn't bring any clothes. Crap.
Can't. I err, didn't bring my clothes.
He gave a bark that sounded surprisingly like a laugh.
Trust me, just phase back. There's nothing I haven't seen before.
Snarling, Leah allowed a string of vulgarities to be uttered before she phased back, keeping her gaze on the ground as she fidgeted nervously. She felt surprisingly self conscious around Jacob.
She felt his rough hands curl around the edge of her chin as he lifted her head up, his black eyes scanning her green ones.
They didn't need words. The way his lips crushed hers conveyed a single message that was pretty clear, I love you. And only you.
*The End*
