AN: I was enjoying my hiatus, until this incredibly annoying voice in my head told me to write. So bleh.

Warning: my random thoughts that range from sad to happy.

disclaimer: you know the drill, I don't own fairy tail

"Hello," A small, light, voice floated through the air of the cavernous library.

"Wh-who's there?" The voice of a young boy rang out, frightened and scared "Stay back! I know dark magic!"

A shimmering apparition glided to a stop in front the cowering boy. "Why do you know dark magic?" This question was spoken without any suspicion or scathing, only the genuine curiosity of a naive little girl.

The apparition crackled for a second and then sharpened. Suddenly, you could see the figure clearly. A girl, who looked no older than thirteen, with long wavy blond hair and pure, majestic wings. But the most notable feature was her eyes, a clear greenish blue, filled with nothing but childish dreams and glimpses of a perfect world.

Hesitantly, the scrawny, pale boy peeked up from the thick book covering his face. "Wh-who are you?" he shakily asked. "Why do you look like a angel? They don't exist!"

The girl tilted her head. "I am Mavis. Who are you?"

"W-well, I'm Zeref. But you didn't answer my second question!"

Mavis grinned an easy smile. "Your second question? Well that's easy! The reason why I look like a angel is because I am one, silly!"

"Wow. You're an angel?" Zeref said, awed. He was staring at her, transfixed. "You're a really pretty angel!" Zeref had quickly lost his shyness and fixed Mavis with an intense gaze. "If you're an angel, then do you know where my little brother Natsu is?

Mavis frowned, confused. "Your brother? Why?"

"Well, he's dead, but I'm working to bring him back to life! I want to see him, and tell him that he has a chance at life again, and his fail of an older brother is trying to do some good..." At this, Zeref's tone turned sadder, his face darkening.

Mavis shook her head solemnly. "To do so would be to anger to gods and its consequences would be drastic. You must not. It is forbidden."

"That's ok. I like forbidden..." And then Zeref smiled, an empty smile lost in the past of what could of been. A smile to a day lost in time, to when all was peaceful and happy.

His eyes were glazed, and silently crying, lost in his head to before the meaningless bloodshed and war that appeared to ruin their lives. Eyes that were silently crying for the suffering, for the weak, for the people who could not protect their loved ones.

The air filled with despair and gloom, the dusty corridors of the cavernous library so lonely and empty.

Silently, the tiny angel left the small crying boy.
