The night the Dark Lord attacked Godric's Hollow, The Potters were not home. Their children however were.
Remus Lupin a family friend had been captured by rouge Deatheaters and Dumbledore had called them away. It had had not boded well with Lily to leave her children on the most dangerous night of the year but Peter Pettigrew had volunteered to watch them till Lily and James were back she had conceded. He had been their Secret Keeper after all. She thought it would be safe.
She had been wrong.
Sage Potter howled in almost the same pitch as her twin brother when the Killing curse rebounded off him. The echo of his pain reverberated through her, she could vaguely conceive the Dark Lord's shriek as his body dissolved across the room and that made her wail louder.
The backfired curses after affects ricocheted making the house's foundation tremor. The roof, already weak from the forcibly broken wards, collapsed inward onto the children's nursery covering small Sage in dust and filth from the attic effectively cutting of her distressed cries.
Some rubble from the attic caught her across the bridge of her nose opening a ragged cut; the blood almost choked her already aching lungs. Harry, her twin, especially perceptive of the link tonight felt the pain in his own lungs along with the freshly opened wound on his forehead. His small body couldn't take it and he fell unconscious along with his sister.
Their older brother Desmond, who was a year older than they, was in shock. At a little over two, he was aware enough to know something bad had happened.
His brother and sister had recently been sleeping in separate cribs. Sage's was across the room where the roof had collapsed and he could see it was covered in debris from the attic. He stood and slipped carefully off his cot and tried to walk toward Sage's crib not noticing his face was bleeding heavily from a crescent shape gash around his eye.
He walked trying not to trip but the house's unstable foundation shuddered to the side and halfway collapsed sending him sprawling over a heap of dark robes. His hand skimmed across a nail sticking up from a board that had come lose and a weal of blood came to the surface bringing also the feeling of pain back.
He passed out while the house crumbled around them.
