Metal Wings

The moon hung low in the sky, dimly lighting the earth below.

A lone figure cast a long silhouette down the slope of a hill. It was the usual place he went to when he was free. The air was cool, breezy, and relaxing, and best of all, nobody disturbed him. Nobody, that is, until he crossed paths with a certain blonde haired girl.

"I thought you'd be here," A soft voice came up behind him. The crimson-haired boy didn't need to turn to know who was there.

"What do you want?" Enjyu asked, closing his eyes.

There was a short pause. "Nothing. I just thought you might be lonely."

Enjyu sensed something in front of his face. Quickly, his eyes snapped open, and his line of vision was filled with a picnic basket.

"Or hungry," Liena added with a smile.

"Hn," Enjyu smirked and pushed away her offer. "You're out of your mind. I don't need anything."

"Don't say that," Liena said, voice full of concern. Enjyu turned around to meet her eyes.

There was something about her eyes; those green, faultless, fearless eyes that always looked right into his. It was as if she could dive into his soul and uncover everything about him. It was something that captivated Enjyu.

"Don't tell me what I can't say," Enjyu retorted.

"I could say the same to you," Liena coolly replied.

"Hn."

"Enjyu..."

Unconsciously, Liena brought a hand over her heart. "Why are you always like this? Always alone and distant...there has to be something you want for you to be happier."

"Marda B. and the Shadow Alliance. That's all I need. I get power and that's what makes life enjoyable."

"Isn't there anything else?"

Enjyu took a menacing step forward, shortening the distance between the two. He didn't get why she bothered with him; she was like an angel taking care of a stray dog.

"I'll put it in some stupid fairytale terms that you can understand: I'm the bad guy, a demon; I don't need anything but power," He breathed, towering over her.

She shook her head to disagree. "No...I believe you're a good person, Enjyu. A fallen angel."

"Fallen angels can't fly."

"They can mend their wings," Liena quietly said. "They may not be pure, but they're metal wings. And that makes them even stronger."

Enjyu laughed. "Are you crazy? Metal wings are a burden to carry."

The taller boy expected Liena to back down, but she held her ground. He smirked; the unwavering spirit she possessed was admirable, especially since she was facing someone who was so high up the ranks in the Shadow Alliance.

"That's not true," She began, but was cut off by Enjyu.

"Do you want to know what I really want?" Enjyu interrupted. As expected, Liena nodded. But unexpectedly, Enjyu closed the gap between them with a kiss. He straightened himself up as Liena's mouth hung open in shock, and finished his sentence. "For you to shut up."

It was a lie, but Enjyu wasn't about to admit that. Holding a conversation (or rather, some sort of mild argument) with Liena was always a highlight of his day, but it was perpetually satisfying to leave her speechless. With his smug trademark smirk on his face, Enjyu departed from the moonlit hill. All Liena could do was stare as his back grew smaller and smaller in the distance. She seemed to have lost her voice and train of thought. Slowly, the blonde haired girl brought her fingers to her lips.

The picnic basket in her other hand, the reason she had come, had long been forgotten.
