You're Not Alone

Harry needed to do some thinking. A lot of thinking – the war was getting much, much worse and he needed a plan.

Dumbledore was dead; this was more real than it had been before. With Dumbledore gone – Harry was alone. He had no one to guide him, or help him. He would tell Ron and Hermione to stay behind, they wouldn't listen but he couldn't let them be killed because of him being lonely, anyone close to him was in danger, he couldn't let them be next. He felt like everyone that he cared about to him was dying– his parents, Sirius, and now Dumbledore. Tom nearly got Ginny in her first year too. Ginny.

Harry drew in a deep breath and walked over to Ginny as soon as Dumbledore's funeral was over "Ginny, we have to break up"

Harry startled her. It took a moment for the words to sink in, he wanted to break up with he. She looked into Harry's eyes and saw fear, she sighed. "It's for some noble reason isn't it?"

This was by far the hardest thing Harry had ever done – harder than duelling Voldemort even. "I can't let Voldemort get you, we can't be together"

"What if I don't care?" She said her eyes full of passion. It had taken her this long, she wasn't going to let him get away that easily.

Harry took her hand and lead her to the lake where they stood under a tree. "I do, Gin. I care. I have to be alone, it's the only way. I'm alone. That's the way it has to be."

"You're not alone" Ginny said caressing Harry's hand, "You're here with me."

"Gin-"

"It doesn't matter what happens Harry, I will always love you. You know that?" She couldn't be selfish. The world needed Harry more than she did.

"Yeah, I do".

"We will make it through this, we have to." Ginny's voice was full of desperation.

"Ginny, I'm not even an adult yet." This had really only just dawned on Harry, he always felt a lot older than he was.

Ginny hugged him, she was putting on a brave face, but she was terrified for him. "I know babe, I know."

They stood there for a few moments in each others arms in a blissful silence. An autumn leaf fluttered down, and landed in Ginny's hair, he lifted his hand and carefully picked it up.

"What if I can't win, what if I'm not strong enough?" Harry said looking down at it. Part of it was green, and the other part was red. Like the spells they sent at each other when he and Voldemort dulled. Like it would be when the time arrived. One of them would die; he just hoped that it wouldn't be him.

"You will win, you are strong enough. I have all the faith in the world in you."

"You're right, I'm not alone. That's what Voldemort wants."

"And you can't give that to him."

"When the war's over, we can be together forever?" Harry said, holding Ginny at arms length, searching her eyes.

Ginny put her arms around him, held him tightly, and whispered into Harry's messy black hair -

"Forever. I Promise"
