Taihou was sitting with Admiral Serizawa outside on the cliff overlooking the ocean, the two of them watching the sunset together as she poured two cups of sake. The admiral had invited her out to join him for a drink, and she wondered if he was possibly worried, for tomorrow she would be leading an attack against the largest enemy force they've encountered so far.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Serizawa said, his eyes drawn to the sunset.
"Yes, it is." Taihou agreed, looking up into the sky.
The sun was going down on the ocean and the sky was ablaze with hues of fiery orange, bright yellow, and lovely blue. It was truly a sight to behold, and she found herself unable to look away from it. It was beautiful, just like he'd said, and it sent such a wave of satisfaction over her that she just smiled, forgetting all about the sake.
"Taihou..." Serizawa suddenly said, interrupting the girl's moment of bliss.
"Yes?" Taihou asked, noticing his soft tone.
When he spoke, there was no mistaking the concern in his voice. "I expect you to do your best tomorrow."
She blinked, surprised by his unexpected words. He's worried about me...?
A light blush spread across her cheeks and there was a smile on her face, the girl setting down her untouched cup of sake as she stood up and stepped forward, looking out towards the sea. It made her happy to know that he cares about her, a girl born only to fight, so she was determined to not let him down.
"Admiral, did I not promise you victory?" She turned back to the admiral; and, with the sunset to her back, she held out her hand to him. "I won't lose!"
Serizawa looked up at Taihou; and, in that moment, with the orange and yellow glow around her, she truly looked like a great phoenix. Beautiful... He thought, smiling and setting his cup down next to hers. "We'll save the drinks until after you've returned." He said before taking her hand.
Together, they stood watching the setting sun.
