Claire's Daddy

By Wee-Me

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Bennet, Claire, or any of the other "Heroes", they are all the creations of Kring.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: The idea of Bennet as a Daddy just won't leave me alone. These are some of his thoughts after Sylar locks him in his own prison. (Written before the 2/26/2007 episode which broke my heart.) Their relationship kills me (especially after that last episode). I hope you enjoy it, thanks for reading. Reviews are appreciated.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

The monster was after Claire. The monster was going after Claire and he was stuck in his own damned cage.

"No! NO! C'mon!"

THUD. THUD. THUD.

His knuckles were bleeding but it wasn't enough, he couldn't get out of his own trap. Beating on the glass was getting him nowhere but he could do nothing else.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

Someone come, please. She's my baby, please. Please Lord don't let this happen.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

The blood was flowing and smearing the glass and pain was shooting up his arm from his fist. In his mind Claire's life flashed before his eyes.

– He is young and a girl child is pressed into his arms. He looks into her eyes and is no longer a man, he is transformed into a father. He would die to protect his child.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

– Months and months pass: she says Daddy first, walks only to him, and won't go to sleep

without hearing his voice. She is toddling when Lyle is born. He loves his wife, he loves his son, but Claire is his baby girl and has a stronger hold on his heart.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

– Years pass: she loses teeth, rides a bike, and has her first "crush". She still loves him best and believes he can do anything.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

– Years pass: she is changing and he worries. She changes to be the perfect cheerleader and to gain popularity. Boys will come soon and he has no qualms about making them disappear. But she is still his baby, teddy bears and all.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

– She is hurt, first by the jock and then by Sylar. She finally tells him her truth, about what she is and what she can do. It is all spiraling out of control. He would die to protect her, but it is killing him now that he can't seem to keep her safe.

THUD. THUD. CLICK.

The door opened and he charged out like a mad dog. He bellowed orders and arrived at the car before his brain realized he was out of the cage. He snarled, but ceded the wheel to the Haitian.

Sylar dies for this! Screw the orders, the bastard is DEAD!

He crossed his lawn and entered his home before the car was even fully stopped. It felt good to shoot him, but he forfeited the chase to look for Claire. He was relieved to find her missing, hopeful she would be somewhere safe. His wife, the woman he loves to distraction, was not so lucky.

-----

Later, Sylar gone and his wife protected, Claire came home. He wanted nothing more than to pull her close and hold her safe like he did that first time, but instead pretended normalcy. Soon enough normalcy will cease to be an option, even a father's love cannot protect her forever. She is growing up so fast and growing suspicious of him. Soon enough she will learn the truth because, and he knows this with a father's pride, she is too smart not to find out.

For now though she is still his little Claire-bear and he will cherish that while he still can. Because, no matter what happens, he will always be her Daddy.
