"I've got big news!", Lucy said with excitement. "Ok...here it goes...I'm getting married! YAY! Can you believe it!?"

She looked like she couldn't contain her happiness. A wide smile decorated her face, eyes that sparkled. To her surprise she felt her entire body trembling from joy.

"And you know what else? I'm getting married tomorrow!", she sighed, finally satisfied, letting all her anxiousness fade away. "I bet you could see that coming after all, since you could always picture all of this even before I could", she gently caressed the petal of a white rose from a bouquet she was holding. "And he's wonderful, you know...caring, tender, kind...my gosh!".

Lucy, grinning once more, felt for a moment like a little girl again, but she didn't mind. She was in total confidence after all. The cool breeze swayed her ginger locks gently as she sat down in the grass. "I've never been so sure about anything before in my life".

She looked at the empty for a while, thinking, meditating...

"I remember that, when I was little, you used to tease me because I never wanted to get married", her vision blurred while her fingers started exploring the grass. "And you said that someday you would walk me down the aisle whispering "I told you so" in my ear".

Tears rolled down her cheeks. "You've no idea how much I want you here right now", Lucy brushed away her tears bitterly. "I miss you, I miss you badly. I would give the world for a moment with you...it's just not fair! I just want you to be there tomorrow, to walk me down the aisle!", Lucy said with fury, blades of grass in her fingers that she'd just pulled. "I want to hear you whispering "I told you so"".

She bursted into tears again, pure and sincere sorrow surpassing her soul.

And there she remained.

"You would like him, I'm sure", she said when she could finally calm down. "And the girls! you should've seen them talk about the wedding, If you could see them...I'm afraid they would steal your heart as they stole mine. Now everything is clear...getting to see their faces with nothing but love in their eyes, it's invaluable! I guess that, in the end, only love remains, right?"

By then, Lucy seemed reconciled with the world again. She slowly stood from the ground. Twilight painted the sky gold and the air was cooling quickly.

"I love you, dad", she whispered and gently left the bouquet among the grass.

And so, she dedicated one last gaze at the cinereous plaque before leaving.
