HUSH
This is as quiet as it gets.
The sky is filled with stars, but they elude me.
I don't hear the wind, or the forest, or the animals.
All I see is her face, engraved to the last detail in my tortured mind.
Smooth.
Human.
Perfect.
We were once perfect her and me.
Now that perfection would never leave this meadow with me.
Edward...
H-hush now I'd whispered.
I watched how rivers moved beneath her translucent skin.
I imagined my fingertips following them flow down her neck, composing a symphony from the goose bumps that formed underneath them.
P-please she'd begged, her voice a pleading breath.
Bella...
It's the only way she sounded so sure, longed for this condemnation with her heart.
Her heart.
That tight beautiful flower.
Now a bloody mess.
Just one more night I pleaded, my dry mess, aching.
Her hand was on my cheek, warm.
She kissed me softly on the lips.
One more night she agreed.
That was three nights ago.
Will it hurt?
Not if you don't scream a convincing lie rolling confidingly from my tongue.
I held her in my arms while she slept.
Sleep.
For one last time, before an eternal night would stretch out before her.
I didn't make a single sound.
I should've heard the wind, and the forest, and the animals.
All I heard was the flutter of her heartbeat.
Butterfly wings.
This was the calming before the storm.
What if I can't stop? the constant worry crept up on me, but it always lingered there.
I trust you. Always.
The absolution was always incomplete.
What if ... but I couldn't say it.
And she didn't want to hear it.
Hush.
This is where it ends a warning I knew she wouldn't heed.
This is where we start from a correction that sounded like music to my ears, even though deep down my dry excuse of a heart would have faltered if it had been able to.
A silence set between us, I lost myself in her eyes for countless moments.
My hand swept her hair out of the way, rivers being revealed to me that I should avoid.
They were pulsing, swelling, threatening to escape their banks. They stretched out and called to me, my throat burning.
P-please her lips quivered with emotions, her eyes closed now.
I stopped breathing.
I fought my impulses, the instincts that told me to kill kill kill. I drew at my final ounce of strength but I couldn't speak. I couldn't beg for her forgiveness.
Bella... I whispered against her skin.
The quintessence of my existence.
I planted my teeth in a river of red.
She coloured my eyes.
Red.
stopstopstopdon'tkillheryouhavetostop!
I can't hear the wind, or the forest, or the animals.
All I hear is my love dying.
I lie like stone, frozen in the meadow that once was only ours.
Now it is the monster's as well.
