All was not well in the forest of Tyto, hatchlings where being born, in the middle of a war. All the other hatchlings where white, but one was a almost completely different color…. Blood red. Sorren, a hero barn owl, got the 3 white hatchlings, and took them to safety. He came back for the last one, he though it was covered un blood of the fallen warriors.
He soared over to a puddle, he tried to wash the red feathers off, the feathers stayed red. He scrubbed harder, but not too hard. The feathers stayed the same like nothing had happened. He shook his head in disbelief. As he looked down at the hatchling, he saw a crescent shape on her forehead, it looked like a quarter moon.
He brought the 4 hatchlings to the Ga'hoole tree, Bark, the wise Grey owl, gave Sorren the honors of naming, and raising the hatchlings.
Sorren named the red one first, he though for a few moments. He couldn't think on anything. He moved on to the white owlets, he named them Lee, Talon, and Midnight. He looked at the red hatchling, "Your name will be, Moon, Red Moon." he hooted.
A few years later, the owlets where singing and flying together, all except Red Moon. She was gazing at her talons, her sharp red talons, She looked at the markings on her wings. She looked nothing like her daddy. The biggest difference between her and the other owlets, was she couldn't fly. She was old enough, she tried, she failed.
She hooted for her daddy, Sorren came flying. "Daddy?" Red Moon hooted.
"Yes, Red Moon?" Sorren hooted back.
"How come I look nothing like you?" Red Moon hooted. Sorren hesitated, "It's because that your mother looked like you." he hooted, trying to hide the truth.
"No, Bark told me you never had a mate!" Red Moon hooted, she just wanted to know… Where did she come from?
Sorren sighed, "I never wanted to tell you this."
He lead the 4 owlets toward the hollow they lived in. "I'm not you're real father, you parents died in a fight with the dark side. I'm so sorry for lying to you for all these years." He hooted.
"It's ok, we forgive you." Carla, the oldest owlet, hooted. All of them, except Red Moon, group hugged.
Red Moon was just barely holding back tears. She knew that she was different than everyone else! But, how come the others could fly and she couldn't, how come she looked so different from the rest of them? He head was spinning in questions!
During the night, while the others where sleeping, she climbed up into her secret hollow and sung,
"On the first page of our story, the future seemed so bright. Then the saint turned out, so evil. I don't know why I'm still surprised. Even angels have their wicked schemes and you take that to new extremes, but you'll always be my hero.
Even though you lost your mind. Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, well that's alright because I like the way it hurts. Just gonna stand there and hear me cry, well that's alright because I Love The Way You Lie, I love the way you lie. I love the way you lie.
Now there's gravel in our voices, glasses shattered, from the fight. In this tug-of-war you always win, even when I'm right. Cause, you feed me fables from your head, with violent words and empty threats, and it's SICK that all these battles, are what keeps me satisfied."
Sorren woke up, to her beautiful voice and listened to the rest of her song while he tried to go back to sleep, he felt horribly guilty, very guilty.
