Chinese New Year's
Everyone loved this time of year. Omi loved that he now had friends to share the holiday with. Clay loved the many different foods that were made. Raimundo loved the presents he got from his friends and family. And Kimiko? Kimiko loved the fireworks.
Ever since she was a small child, Kimiko had always loved fireworks. She loved the loud noise, the bright colors, the explosions in mid-air. Standing on a tall hill, her gaze locked on the dark inky sky, she used to follow the fireworks's tail with her eyes until finally it exploded high above her head, showering the sky with rays of light. Standing on that hill with her papa, one hand clutched tightly in his, the other hand stretched toward the sky as if she could grab some of the color and just cup it in her small hand. Everytime there was a bursting firework, Kimiko squealed happily, her papa laughing joyously beside her.
Even now, as a young woman, Kimiko still felt like that litle girl standing on the hill whenever she watched fireworks. As she, Rai, Clay, and Omi walked up to the hill with their favorite tree, Kimiko felt a wide smile stretch across her lips as she anticipated the upcoming fireworks show. They were dressed in Chinese kimono's, their colors representing their elements.
Raimundo's was white and gray, with hints of blue. Omi's was varying shades of blue with some green mixed in. Clay's was a warm brown with strands of gold woven in. Kimiko's was a deep red, with orange and yellow splashed on.
Once they were at the top of the hill, they spread out a large blanket and settled in to watch. By now, Kimiko's pulse was racing with excitement as she locked her gaze to where the fireworks would begin. Beside her, Raimundo glanced at Kimiko, smiling softly as he saw how happy she was. He noticed a lock of her hair had excaped from its loose bun, and he tucked it behind her ear. Kimiko turned to him in surprise, but her expression relaxed and she mouthed a thanks to him.
As she turned to face the sky once more, the fireworks spectacle began and Kimiko was completley enraptured. The first few fireworks exploded and Kimiko let out a delighted peal of laughter. Raimundo chuckled, then happened to glance down, where he saw Kimiko's hand just laying there.
He didn't even give himself time to think.
Kimiko's firework watching reverie was broken when she looked down to see her fingers interlaced with Raimundo's. She looked up at him and their eyes locked for a minute before sharing a mutual smile. They both turned back to watch the fireworks, hands still laced together. Tomorrow they would probably laugh about this moment, or tease each other, or even not mention it at all.
But for now, they were content to just give way and enjoy the fireworks.
Me: Hi! First off, so sorry about the hiatus. I know I said I would only be gone a month, as someone so kindly reminded me. But I'm back, and better than ever! So be on the lookout for a new chapter of Eternal Love!
