Prologue

The horizon was painted in light purple's and red's as the sun slowely began to rise. Sakura slipped a sweater on over her pyjamas, and quietly walked downstairs into the kitchen. She was home alone, as usual, with nothing to do but eat left overs and watch re-runs on T.V. all day. She poured herself a bowl of cereal, then walked into the living room to sit on the couch and watch the Tokyo Morning News while she ate her breakfast.

It was lonely without her otou-san (father) and annoying onii-chan (older brother) at home, and Tomoyo and her classmates were away visiting relatives in far away places. She groaned, I want to go somewhere too! Just once she wished her otou-san would take her along with him on one of his archeological digs around the world. But she was too young, too prone to any kind of dangers, too dear to him. What was Touya, Sakura wondered, chopped liver? She washed the bowl and set it on the drying rack before taking a quick shower and changing into something decent other than her pyjamas.

It was a warm day for late September. But, the sky was gray, and the wearthman on the news had predicted icy rains for later in the evening. Lots and lots of icy rain. That meant the temperature was going to dive into the low 30's and maybe even 20's (degree Farenheit). He grunted while scrutinizing the small town. It was quiet and peaceful here, and there seemed to be no traces of magic around anywhere.

"Maybe Aunt Yelan and those old farts were wrong this time." She landed gracefully beside him after scoping out her entourage from a bird's eye point of view. "There's nothing special about this place, Syao-kun!" She whined, her jet, black hair whipping violently in the wind. "And it's cold! Let's go back to the apartment, please?" She was right; it was too cold. Defeated, Syaoran shoved his hands into his pockets and headed back to the apartments.

Sakura locked the front door before rushing out into the street on her roller blades. The sidewalks were empty. No one was crazy enough to be walking around in this weather; atleast no one crazier than her. She was cold, but happy. Yukito was uptown at the soda shop, and he was waiting there just for her! "Sugoi!" She smiled, a tinge of red creeping across her cheeks.

Syaoran's body grew tense, and the small hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He caught her out of the corner of his eye, skating passed them. Meiling stopped and glanced behind her. "Syao-kun, come on! It's going to rain soon!" The aura vanished as quickly as it had revealed itself. He figured Meiling's mind was too far set from their task to feel anything but the cold and wet rain, or maybe, he had just imagined it.
