Doki Doki: New World

Chapter 1

Jack

As my vision returned to normal, I noticed I was laying in an open field. Sitting up, I looked around, seeing a village far off. Getting to my feet, I looked to the sky. It looked normal.

Heading towards the village, I looked at the sign. "Welcome to Jericho." I read. "Jericho? Never heard of the place."

Entering the village, I saw a building that looked a bit like an Inn. Walking through the doors, I approached the woman behind the counter. "Excuse me."

She took a second to look me up and down. "Interesting attire." she said.

"Huh?" looking at what she was wearing, I noticed it was something that would be taken straight from a video game. "Uh...you, too." I shrugged. "Could you tell me where I am?"

"Jericho?" she replied.

"Yeah, I got that part." I crossed my arms. "What state am I in?"

She cocked her head, confused. "Do you mean kingdom?"

"Kingdom?"

"Uh, sure?" I shrugged.

"You're in the kingdom of Solveria." she told me.

"Right..." I closed my eyes in thought. Having a hunch, I decided to ask. "What world do we live in?"

"You really must have had too much to drink if you forgot that." she chuckled. "We're on the planet of Pandora."

"Pandora? What the hell happened to me? Wait! If I'm in another world...or...a different dimension or whatever the hell happened to me. Does that mean I won't be able to see Monika, Yuri, Sayori and Natsuki again?!"

"Are you okay?" the woman asked. "You look sick all of the sudden."

I could feel my breathing start to quicken. "I...I need to go!" rushing outside, I ran back to the field I woke up in. Looking around for anything that could help me get back home, I started searching.

After hours of looking around, I came up empty handed. "Is this...really happening?"

A few weeks later

Walking into the Inn, I scanned the room. The place was crowded with demihumans, and lowlife scum. I got used to my new life, and have come to terms that I'll never see the others again. It hurts like hell, but I can't live in the past.

Seeing who I was looking for, I walked over and sat down next to them. "You're the Reaper, right?" he asked.

"The Reaper?" I repeated. "First time I've been called that." the waitress walked over and placed two cups of, what looked like, whiskey in front of us. "What do you want?"

"I need someone to...disappear." he told me. He dropped a large bag of coins onto the table. "Payment up front." opening the bag, I peeked inside, seeing countless gold coins.

"And what has this person done to deserve this?" I asked. This has been the first time someone's asked me to make someone 'disappear'. I usual take jobs to clear out monsters. I would've said "no", but I need the money.

"He's a human trafficker!" the man growled, clenching his fists. "He steals kids from their homes and sells them off for profit! He deserves the worst death imaginable."

"What's his name?"

"People just call him the Slaver." he replied. "He moves around a lot for 'business' but he's in this village today. But you won't be able to find him until nightfall."

"Hmph." I took my drink and downed it in one gulp. "I'll see you here tomorrow when the deed is done."

"Alright." he got up and walked out of the Inn.

Placing a hand over my eyes, I leaned my head back and let out a sigh. "What has my life come to?"

Hours later, midnight

Walking around the streets of the village, I took back alleys and narrow passage ways, anywhere a filthy rat would hide.

After a few minutes of searching, I heard a loud crash and rushed to the source. A man was mumbling and staring at the boxes he knocked over, a large wagon behind him. "Hey!" he jumped when he heard my voice.

"Oh, hello there!" he waved. "What are you doing back here?"

"I'm looking for someone called 'The Slaver'." I replied. "You him?"

"That depends." he replied, a devilish smirk spreading across his lips. "You want to see him for business?"

"Yeah." I lied. "I need someone to deal with my burdens."

"Well, you've come to the right place!" he clapped his hands together before heading over to his wagon. He opened it and I saw rows of kids to teenagers around my age tied up. "I've got everything you could possibly-" he was cut off when I pressed my blade against his throat. "What are y-?!" he wasn't able to finish as I yanked my blade across his throat.

I've killed people before, bandits, thugs, lowlives that have tried to rob me. The first time I took a life messed with me for a bit. The second time wasn't any easier. But after my fourth kill, I started to feel numb to it. And now, I can slit someone's throat without batting an eye.

His body dropped to the ground as I climbed into the back of the wagon. Most of these kids had wounds from knives and other sharp objects and they'd squeal when I'd approach them. "It's okay." I said softly.

Reaching out for one girl's restraints, I started dragging my blade back and forth until it finally cut through the rope. She took the gag out of her mouth. "You okay?" I asked her. She didn't reply, just...sat in silence. "I'll take you guys home." I took out my other dagger and handed it to her. "Here, help me free the others."

After freeing the others, I climbed up front and taking the reins. "Where are you guys from?"

"Half of us are from Rvulis." one of the boys told me.

"The rest of us are from Yurin."

"Alright." I got the horses moving. "I'll take you guys back home."

Hours later

I had dropped off the first half of the slaves in Rvulis and just now dropped off the others in Yurin. Heading back to Jericho, I heard a soft sniffle come from the back.

Glancing into the wagon, I saw a teenage demihuman, a few years younger than me, huddled with her knees against her chest. "What about you?" I asked her. "Which village were you taken from?"

She looked up at me, tears rolling down her cheeks. She didn't say anything, just shook her head. "You got any family?" I asked. Again, she shook her head. "Damn." I turned back around.

She looked a bit sickly and was extremely underweight.

It was a few more hours before we got back to Jericho and the sun had already began to rise.

Parking the wagon, I climbed off of it and went around to the back. Opening the flap, the demihuman was asleep. She had a pair of fox ears with a fluffy tail.

Climbing inside, I turned her over and managed to pick her up onto my back. Hopping out of the wagon, I took her inside the Inn, seeing my client already waiting for me.

Sitting her down at the table, I sat down and felt her lean against me, still sound asleep. "I assume the job's done?" he asked.

"Yeah." I nodded. "That scum won't be stealing anyone else ever again."

"Good." he smiled before standing up and leaving.

After a few seconds, the waitress walked over. "Can I get you anything to eat, sir?"

"Yeah, get this girl your best meal." I told her.

"Okay!" she wrote it down before heading off.

A few minutes passed before she returned with the food, placing it in front of the girl before walking off to help the other customers.

Gently poking the girl's cheek, her eyes slowly opened. "Here." I moved the food closer to her and she immediately perked up.

"I...it's for me?" she asked.

"Yeah." I stood up. "Enjoy the meal." reaching into my pocket, I pulled out the bag of coins and placed it in front of her. "This should help you find a place to stay and-"

"Wow! This is delicious!" she smiled after taking a bite. I turned around and began to walk away. "Mister!" the girl called for me.

"What?"

"Sit with me, please?"

Sighing, I walked back over and sat across from her. Resting my head on my hand, I looked out the window. "What's your name?" she asked me.

"Which one?"

"Your real name."

"Jack." I answered. "You?"

"Rosalene."

"Pretty name."

She didn't say anything as she quickly finished her meal. "Well, have a good day, Rosalene." I stood up and went to leave.

Hearing the bag of gold clink around, I glanced back to see her holding it while following me. "What are we going?" she asked.

"We?"

"Yep!" she nodded. "I'm your servant now."

"No. You're free. Your life is now your own." I told her.

"Free?" she cocked her head as if she didn't know what that word meant. "Well...if I can do whatever I want...then I want to follow you!"

"Why?"

She stopped walking and I turned to face her. "Because...I have no one else."
