BALLET OF THE LIVING, REQUIEM OF THE DEAD

PART ONE

As someone who was nothing more than an amnesiatic wondering spirit, the living looked like they were dancing and putting on a show for the deceased. As far as she could see, the living were dancing in a ballet called life (their moves depending on the cruel whims of fate), and the dead were retired participants that had become nothing more than spectators (left to reminisce about their time of being part of such a beautiful and horrid performance).

The living danced, while the dead remembered.

There were those however, that had no memories to speak of.

That was what she was, a spirit who's past has long since been lost to her, her name (her very identity) along with it. She had long since forgotten when exactly she had awoken as a spirit, as well as the place. All she'd done up to now was wonder from one place to another, completely lost in a world that was incapable of seeing her. Each time she crossed paths with other spirits (some human, others not so much) she felt resentful and bitter, for they remembered while she could not.

Spirits that had lost all their memories were rare, and (as she learned the hard way) they couldn't move on until they remembered. So she was trapped, anchored against her will until she regain something she felt she'll never find (It was undeniable cruel, and she at times wondered if this was some sort of punishment). She was often plagued by phantom pains, small fragment of memories that'll appear and disappear just as quickly (slipping through her hands like water). In those instances, she would feel echoes of faded emotions, (sometimes it was happiness, othertimes it was sadness, and ,on rare occasions, anger). Then there were the soft whispers of a melody she couldn't fully make out, a tune that brought her so much joy and longing at the same time.

Overall, it was a tortuous existance, just wondering and searching for answers she feared she would never receive.

Everything changed however, when someone saw her for the first time in years.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I apologize for any mistakes I may have made. Watch out for part two.
