A/N: The text in bold is from the sequence you get if you wait in the title screen for a couple of minutes, apart from the last line which is from an cutscene in the game. This fic contains mild slash although to be honest I wouldn't see it as necessarily romantic. It's about a boy who feels empty and finds the other half of himself. Feedback is welcomed but flamers will face the wrath of my Keyblade.

Thinking of you, wherever you are.

Roxas awoke feeling warm and tingly, like he'd just woken from an amputation and was still anaesthetised. Like last night and every night before for as long as he could remember, he'd dreamed of that boy – the boy his age whose memories he seemed to have locked in his head, for some bizarre reason. Every night the memories became clearer. Roxas was starting to wonder whether they were real.

The dreams all ended the same way. A glimpse of two figures standing face-to-face on a dark battleground and then the soft press of lips upon Roxas's. Strong hands on his shoulders and the taste of sea salt ice cream. This was when he woke up each time with the empty feeling that there was someone calling to him, just out of reach.

We pray for our sorrow to end

And hope that our hearts will blend

Now I will step forward to realise this wish.

He'd come all of this way – there was no turning back now. Gripping the Keyblade that had adopted him so forcefully, he stepped forward into the white cocoon that held his destiny.

Surrounded by light that penetrated him as if he was just an illusion, Roxas felt himself shatter into a million fragments of dust. The memories of Sora's life flashed through his mind as he felt himself fusing with someone… becoming something… more.

So this is what it's like to feel warm.

And who knows:

Starting a new journey may not be so hard

Or maybe it has already begun.

Sora woke with the lingering taste of salty sweetness on his lips. When he closed his eyes he could almost make out the shape of another person, someone close to him whose name he couldn't quite recall. Disoriented as he was, he could not shake off a sense of belonging and a feeling of warmth, as if he were encompassed in another's embrace. Two syllables left his mouth – a word that he would not remember when he heard it again.

The Keyblade appeared in his right hand and he set off in search of his friends.

There are many worlds

But they share the same sky-

One sky, one destiny.

Much travelling and many battles later, the two halves meet in a clash of Keyblade against Keyblade. Defeated, the lighter haired boy falls onto his knees and looks over at the one he dreamed about for so many nights. For the first time in his non-existence, he feels a heartbeat in his chest – Sora's heart. His heart.

Reaching out, he touches Sora's face and the other boy kneels down to take his lips in a kiss. Sea salt ice cream. A gentle hand cups his chin. Soft strands of hair tickle his face. Sora pulls away.

"You make a good Other."
