A/N: This was going to be my Easter Challenge entry but I read over the rules again when I was half way through this and it turns out there needs to be a hunt in the story. So, finished this one and started a new one. I wanted to post this anyway cause I kinda liked the idea. Sorry if its short/you don't like it/ramble-ish. Please review.
I'm going to tidy this up a bit in the next few days, maybe even redoing it.
I paced the length of the shop. Ron was going to come in any minute, and he said he had big news. Well, I had big news, but it wasn't exactly for him. His best mate, in fact.
I'm not talking about Harry. Harry's a great bloke, but I just don't swing that way. I meant Hermione. I could possibly be in love with nerdy, book-smart, show-off, 'insufferable' as Professor Snape put it, bushy-haired Hermione Granger.
She has outgrown those days of course, haven't we all? Ever since the war, she has become more sophisticated. Her hair is more sleek and... controlled. She was beautiful and now she's even more beautiful. I never really noticed at Hogwarts, but I knew it was there.
Tomorrow was Easter and I wanted to surprise Hermione with a beautiful Easter dinner, so I decorated the shop. It was closed for the holiday, so I magicked a few shelves out of the way and conjured a small table at the center. The wood of the table was made of vinewood, the same as her wand.
I magicked a few candles to float in the space above our heads, just like at Hogwarts. It was spectacular. There was faint muggle music in the background so I could ask her to dance. That was when I was going to tell her I loved her. I had it all planned out; the picture vivid in my mind. She was going to love it, I was sure of it!
I really got to know her after Fred's death when she came to the Burrow almost everyday to help us and herself cope with the loss. Mostly she would busy herself, doing chores like a house elf, cleaning, washing, dusting, wiping. Everything at the Burrow was so spot-free for weeks.
I tried to get her stop cleaning so much by talking to her. We talked about everything and anything from Fred to S.P.E.W. I opened up to her and in return, she opened up to me. Eventually, she was coming over just to talk to me. Hermione's visits were the highlight of my day.
That was a year ago and when I realized I was in love with her. I didn't tell her because I wanted to see how she felt about me. Its kind of stupid because everyone knows that waiting doesn't help. Yet, they still do it. And now, I'm one of them.
I heard a tinkling which meant Ron came into the shop. I walked out from the back room to greet him.
"George, hey!" Ron said.
"Hi Ron. What are you so happy about?" I asked.
"Am I not allowed to be happy?" he questioned, still holding that smile on his face.
"No, I was just wondering."
"Ok, so today, I went over to 'Mione's and we had lunch and something amazing happened!" Ron said excitedly.
"What?" I asked.
Ron was so excited, the next words he said were incoherent.
"She said yes!" was all Ron could manage.
"Yes to what?" I asked. I was very curious.
"Marriage." My world stopped. Time practically frose. Now it was my turn to be incoherent.
"Well... er... that's... tha.. Great. R-Ron."
"Who was this for anyway?" Ron asked, oblivious to my despair.
It took me a second to think up a reply.
"Angelina."
