"What do you think about him?"
Danny didn't look up from his flowers. "About who?"
Max knew that Danny could get lost in his work sometimes, but there was no way he could've forgotten the past couple of weeks that easily. Most likely he was trying to avoid having to offer his opinion, again. And while they were best friends, that never failed to set Max on edge: what was the whole point of being on a team if you didn't trust them enough to share your thoughts?
He took a second to remind himself that this was Danny, after all before speaking again. "Cole. Jungle boy? You must've seen him swinging around the Animarium at least once by now."
Max had been hoping that he'd get a response by being more direct, but no, Danny's attention was still fixed on his garden. "I like him."
"I think Alyssa likes him a lot more." That was the understatement of the year. Alyssa had latched onto their new Red Ranger with a speed that was just a little startling from someone as level-headed as Alyssa. But Cole had latched onto her just as quickly (to the point where Max was starting to wish that they'd just kiss and get it over with already), but all in all it was probably a good thing that he had, since he wasn't getting much sympathy from…
"I don't think Taylor likes him, though." Danny was finally looking at him, eyes dark with worry.
And in spite of that worry, Max was just relieved that Danny wasn't keeping it all bottled up inside anymore. "Relax, it'll work out. And after the fight with the Camera Org, I think they're…" he reconsidered his words. "Well, I wouldn't call them friends, but I think they've come to an understanding."
"Taylor's a good leader, but all those rules… I couldn't even understand some of them." This time when he looked at Max, he was smiling, if only a little. "Now that Cole's here… I don't know why, but just being around him makes me feel like we can win."
He turned away to water the plants. "He reminds me of you, actually."
"I… I didn't know you felt that way about me."
Danny looked over his shoulder long enough to grin at him sheepishly. "Sorry. I'll try to be more open with my feelings from now on."
