Maka's POV
I woke up to the sounds of sirens blaring through Death City. I sprung out of bed in surprise and looked around frantically.
I jump out of bed and look out the window to see people running like their lives depended on it.
I threw on my slippers and ran out of my room. "Soul! Soul! What's going on?" I shout, only to receive no response. I stand back at attention when Lord Death's voice spreads through the city.
Attention Citizens of death city! We are under nuclear attack. Please evacuate to the vault immediately!
Nuclear attack?! I had to get to the vault underneath the school. I run out of my apartment and run down the stairs.
My foot gets caught in a hole in the stairway, I fall forward onto my face. I get up to feel the hot blood running out of my nose. I turn around and yank my foot out of the hole, and get back up and run down the rest of the stairs.
I throw open the door and look around. I don't see anymore people. They all must've gotten to the vault already.
FUCK.
I run at top speed to the academy. My slipper comes off as I run up the stairs, but I don't care. I get to the doors only to see them closed. No. No. No. NO.
I pound on the door with all my might.
"Let me in! Please! I'll die out here!" I scream to no avail.
After about 10 minutes of pounding and screaming. I sink down to the ground and cry.
I cry until I can't cry anymore.
I only turn around when I hear footsteps come up the stairs. I turn to look straight into a pair of shocked golden eyes.
"K-Kid?" I whimper, my voice, quiet from my screaming and crying.
"Maka! Why aren't you in the vault?!" He yells.
"Why aren't you in a vault?" I turned his question right back at him.
"I went to go make sure everyone was evacuated." He responds, looking at the city in the shining sunrise. "But it appears they have locked the vault. And they're not going to open it anytime soon." He says, he may be masking it, but I can hear the sadness in his voice.
We both look straight up at we hear a whistle in the sky. My eyes widen as I see the bomb coming straight down toward us. In the moment it looked like it was moving in slow motion.
I stop looking as I feel someone jump up and cover me.
Then I hear an explosion. And everything becomes black.
