One, two. One, two.
His feet pound on the treadmill.
One, two. One, two.
All he wants to do is clear his mind.
One, two. One, two.
One, two. One, two.
Tom looks out of the window of the gym in Greenock and sighs. He didn't know what to do. He knew he had acted like a right tube, just when things were looking up.
He mentally kicked himself. Anyone could see how close he was getting to Nicki and there was no point in denying his feelings for her. So why did he push her away and ruin his chances for good?
One, two. One, two.
They were in the car park. School had finished half an hour before and they were both about to leave. He had been helping Nicki carry her many bags of marking to her car.
"There you go!" Tom smiled as he placed the last bag in the boot of her car.
"Thanks Tom, I really appreciate it." Nicki gave him a warm smile.
"No problem. I'll see you in the morning Nick." Tom loved the fact that he had his own nickname for her, it made him feel all warm and fuzzy, knowing that it was something shared by only the two of them.
"You sure will Clarkson," Nicki said teasingly.
"Come here you!" Tom laughed and pulled Nicki into a hug, which Nicki returned.
They pulled back a little from the embrace, still holding on to each other. As Tom gazed into Nicki's eyes, he was unaware that they were both slowly leaning in to each other, their lips mere centimetres away...
And that was when he panicked. Humans have an instinct in difficult situations that makes them choose fight or flight. Tom most definitely chose flight. He pulled back swiftly, trying not to see the hurt expression on Nicki's face as he mumbled an excuse and ran to his car, leaving Nicki standing in the same spot; heartbroken.
