(a/n) Hey! My first try at a fanfic. I got the idea after my daddy got me ice cream. Don't ask, my mind works in weird ways. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Haruhi Fugiyoka was sitting at her desk, with her homework in front of her, but homework was the last thing on her mind right now. For some strange reason, she just couldn't stop thinking about Tamaki's stupid idea of the host-club as a family, and how not stupid the idea really seemed. They did seem to be each other's replacements for the families they were given, with the exception of Haruhi herself (and maybe Mori-senpai, who knows about him?)

Tamaki was illegitimate, so he's very much unwanted by his grandmother. Not even his dad seems to like him much, she thought. Haruhi wondered if Tamaki tried to come off as naïve and childish, and sometimes a little clueless. She wondered if it was him trying to convince himself that he had no idea that his family didn't like him much.

Kyoya. Haruhi smiled slightly as an image of him flashed inside her brain. Kyoya… well, goodness. Always competing with his two older brothers for his father's attention, and even his love it seemed. What he needs is someone who cares, or at least pretends like they do. She thought about how the host club always seemed to bother him, how he always acted up-tight, snobby, and rude, and began to wonder if this was really the case. She knew he was a generally nice person that really did care about the host club and about others but she had to wonder why he TRIED to come off as a bit stand-offish. Was he pushing others away so he wouldn't be let down by someone he loved again.

Hikaru and Kaoru didn't seem to be wanted at home much either, come to think of it. They were so mischievous, and they've always felt left out because not even their parents can tell them apart, and Haruhi wondered if these two things were related. She knew she was the first person they'd met who could unconditionally tell them apart, and that they liked her for it. She wondered how depressing or frustrating it must be to have parents that can't tell you apart, so they pass you off as too much of a burden and ignore you completely. At least, almost completely.

Honey-senpai came off as someone that was a slight disappointment to his family, even though he was a prodigy, and simply because he was so small. Haruhi remembered meeting his younger (and bigger) brother, and how Honey-senpai had chosen cake over getting along with his brother. So he likes sweets, so what? That's no excuse as to why you always want to battle your brother.

Haruhi thought about how rich her friends were, and well-off they all seemed to be, but in truth, she was much better off than any of them. She wondered if any of them even saw their parents every day. She didn't have a mom, but her dad certainly cared a lot, and she had the host club at school. The boys… well, they just had the host club. It would never replace a real family that loves you, but it was a nice gesture. They cared for each other, fought with each other, asked each other for favors, found happiness in each other's company, and maybe even loved each other. They may have been broken, but the Ouran High School Host Club was in fact a family.

(a/n) Thanks for reading! Not the best I know, but still. Review please! I need all the help I can get.
