Title: Will o' Wisp

Summary: Oneshot. McGee thinks about Abby and what she means to him and Gibbs.

Disclaimer: I'd give up quite a lot to be able to own NCIS, but I don't.

POV: McGee.

Tony calls her the team's 'pet'. She does bounce a lot, and she's exceedingly hyper. But I think that's mainly got to do with the amount of Caf-Pow! she ingests on a regular basis.

She's happy. Even though she wears black and listens to death metal, she exudes some sort of light that makes it impossible not to like her. She's beautiful. The light inside her makes you feel warm, like you could trust her with anything. Even the smallest thing, like a smile, just eliminates the possibility of anything bad in the world. It's amazing.

I think I love her. She's like a will o' wisp, one of those mythical fairies. They shine brightly, but if you follow them, you'll get lost. That's Abby down to a T. I followed her shine, and now I'm lost in that space where the question 'Does she love me back?' appears more frequently that I would like. This isn't an RPG – you don't get second chances, or even really a choice when it comes to love. Had I been playing, I would have known not to follow the will o' wisp. But out here, in the real world, the light was disguised, and before I found it I was already lost.

I think Gibbs followed her light, too. That day when the auto-hummer nearly killed her, he threw down his coffee and ran like hell to save her. He protects her, and I know Abby thinks the world of him. Usually he's his normal, surly, slightly bitter self. But when he gets down to the lab and sees Abby, he seems to relax and is openly fond of her. It's absolutely part of the enigma that is Leroy Jethro Gibbs. No one understands it, including, I think, himself. Abby got him lost, too.

It's that crazy light coming off of her that makes her so irresistible. I don't think it could ever be dimmed, and I would never want it to be.

I don't care if she leads me lost, as long as I'm led by her.
