Best Friends

Authors Notes: Eh, after writing so much damned EHK, I'm trying my hand at a one shot. :3 Go die.

"Plot": A collection of thoughts of an Umbreon about a Typhlosion.

When your lips curved into that familiar cruel-smile, I was unsure of your motives. I never could quite read you, you know, even if I called myself your best friend. I wore that title like a badge; quite foolish of me, I know. But I was young, and you were before me, an elite. Every trainer wanted you, and every pokemon wanted to BE you. Why did you do it...?

He loved you best; you were his prize, his secret weapon. We all knew it, and he made it very clear that you were king. Publicly, you were, but I knew you, or at least I thought I did. After all, we had been together for the longest.

Remember the beginning? Remember when it was just you, me and him? Remember the long, lazy days we spent together? Remember the beautifully captivating summer nights, the amazingly tough battles we had to fight??

I suppose you don't. It makes sense that you wouldn't remember; after all, it's been so long...

They don't remember you. And when I say 'they', I mean all of them; the humans as well as the other pokemon. But I do. How could I forget... Even though it's been so long since I've gazed into your dangerous eyes, since I've fought diligently by your side, I could never forget you.

Sometimes I weep for you, even though you don't really deserve my tears.

You were the most dangerous pokemon I've ever met, and yet, I never felt safer than when I was under your care. That day... you just... snapped. You tried to kill him for trading one of the team members, but you should have known...

That was the last I saw of you.

Until today.

"Typhlosion, use flamethrower!!"

"Umbreon, protect yourself!!"

A shimmering barrier encased the petite black pokemon as a flurry of white-hot flames rushed passed it, protecting the Umbreon from an almost certain knock-out. Without waiting for further instruction from it's trainer, the much larger Typhlosion rushed furiously at the Umbreon... and then stopped without warning, a hint of recognition flashing through it's cruel gaze. But it was quickly replaced with hatred for the enemy, and the Typhlosion resumed charging, leaving a split-second for the black-pokemon to react and dodge the attack.

"Damn it, I keep having problems with this one..." the Typhlosion's trainer cursed and recalled her pokemon. "He never seems to listen to a thing I say; he's virtually useless."

The other trainer chuckled. "Trust me, I know. I used to have a Typhlosion a looooong time ago. Damn thing tried to kill me, so I got rid of him. They're unpredictable bastards, that's for sure."

Sitting very still in the center of the arena was the Umbreon, staring straight ahead, unmoving.

You've forgotten me, my friend...

But I have not forgotten you....
