AN: So my good friend ScienceGeek2587 told me the other day that she didn't think one could write a Sweets/Daisy fic that was deep. I told her I would take that challenge. So, ta-da! This is a one-shot that takes place after "The Cinderella in the Cardboard". Please R & R!
REALIZATIONS
He hoped she was asleep. In fact, he was pretty sure she was. He didn't want her to witness this, him attempting to dissect his emotions. Why oh why had he gotten so jealous?
He didn't feel badly towards Dr. Brennan, though another man might, in his position. After all, she had brought him only what she believed was true. In fact, he felt somewhat comforted by the fact that she cared enough to be sure he knew the truth, to spare him heartache later. It meant that he really was a member of the family now . . . didn't it?
Daisy stirred beside him, one of her hands – so petite, just like the rest of her – sliding slowly up his chest to rest over his heart. He couldn't help but smile, turning his head towards hers. The moonlight was drifting through the window next to the bed, and it caught on her gaze, showing that she was awake, and gazing at him. Lance really did love her, and today had only cemented that fact in his mind.
Sure, he'd tried to hide behind his clinical words and training. In the end, however, he had felt devastated, hurt, and confused. Most of all, he felt betrayed. As he returned her gaze, his left hand shifted and rested on hers, and he leaned in to press his lips against hers. She didn't speak, which might've surprised him any other night. It didn't, tonight. Despite Dr. Brennan's, Dr. Saroyan's, and everyone else's opinions of her, Daisy was an amazingly astute young woman, and Lance had already learned that she knew him almost as well as he knew himself.
He rolled onto his side and slid his arms around her, pulling her close even as she shifted to fit her perfect figure against him. As she rose over him to take him inside her, their eyes never left one another's, and his heart trembled with the sheer awe and love he felt.
Daisy was his one.
