A/N: This isn't really slash, in its true form. It's just two really close friends... being really close. End of story. I'm labelling it romance because it kinda is. Anyway...

"Hey Parvati?"
"Yeah?"
"Our foreheads are touching."
"I know."
"Do you mind?"
"Nope."
"Me neither."
That was the mark of a true friendship. How comfortable they were with each other.
'There's really no sense in playing truth or dare. Hermione's off with Ron's family. Our other roommates are all with their families. Kind of boring."
"Yeah. You know, the only good dare isto make out with each other."
"Yeah."
"Would you?"
"I dunno."
They both shifted uncomfortably. Lavender didn't know what Parvati was thinking, but she did know that she, herself, was shaking.
"Hey Lav?" Parvati asked in the silence.
"Yeah?" Lavender answered.
"Is your heart beating really fast?"
"Yeah. Is yours?"
"Yeah."
Silence.
"Would you?"
"If you dared me to."
"Oh."
Silence.
Then Lavender- "What would Seamus say?"
"He doesn't have to know, Lav."
Lavender shifted. They were both sitting up by this time. The light of the winter moon shone through the curtains of their four-poster beds. To her hazy mind, exhausted from lack of sleep, everything looked like the computer game Hermione had showed her once. All in patches. Like a bad TV reception.
"Do you want to?" Lavender asked, more to break the silence than anything.
"Do you?" Parvati wasn't giving either way.
"Sure. Doesn't matter." Lavender's heart was beating in her throat.
Parvati leaned over. And Lavender wasn't ready, her mouth still open slightly, thinking of something to say. And she reacted on impulse. It was open-mouthed right away. Lavender stopped thinking in terms of her best friend, that they were both girls, and concentrated on the kiss. It was different. They didn't fit together. She pulled back after a minute. Was shaky all over. Couldn't really take it in, in her state of tiredness. She knew she'd probably be shocked the next day.
Fell back on the pillows. Parvati did the same.
"Well."
"Yeah."
"Would you tell anyone about that, Parvati?"
"No. No one would understand."
"Yeah, they wouldn't."
"I don't feel awkward, do you?"
And Lavender stopped to think. Found that she didn't, in fact, feel different or shocked or nervous. Just… normal. "No Parvati- I don't."
And they kissed again, this one sweeter, longer, more closed. They fit better this time. And Lavender had stopped shaking. They pulled away after a long while.
"It's nice to have a friend like you. And I guess we kind of just proved that our friendship is really deep. Cause that kiss didn't really matter."
"You're right. It didn't. And… I'm glad we're this close, too."
"Yeah. I know I can really trust you now."
"Yeah." Lavender sat up again.
Parvati spoke lying down. "Hermione wouldn't really understand."
Lavender shook her head. "No, she wouldn't. Well, her best friends are guys, after all."
"True."
"Although we all know she secretly wants that…"
Parvati snorted.
"Too bad Dean didn't see that- he always thought we were secretly lesbians."
"This doesn't mean we're lesbians, Lav."
"I know. It just… is different."
They drifted off to sleep. Then Lavender said sleepily, "Hey Parvati?"
"Yeah?"
"You're not square anymore."
"I know."
"Hah."
And with that they drifted off to sleep. And it didn't matter that they had kissed- they were as close as ever. And it proved to Lavender what she had doubted her whole life- true, real friendship can really be found.
THE END.
