The desert sun reflected off navy blue metal. Arcee sat on the ledge of a rocky plateau. Her azure optics watched the glorious painted colors in hues of reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows in the sky. Like a sparkling, she kicked her legs to and fro as they dangled below her. She had no fear of the heights so she wasn't afraid of falling off the cliff.
"Arcee?" came an all too familiar voice from her behind her. She sighed,"Yes Optimus?"
"May I join you?"
"Go ahead." Arcee absently replied as she continued to gaze at the sunset. She heard rather than saw the large footsteps approach her and the sound of metal grating against each other as Optimus sat down beside her.
"Beautiful is not?" Optimus asked. Arcee nodded. She drew her attention from the sky to her long time fellow Autobot. His optics look straight ahead, not catching her attention on him. She replied," Yes it is. This planet is so unlike Cybertron but its beauty can compare to it."
"That is true. The humans are lucky to have this planet to call home, they are lucky to have a home at all."
"Yep they are."
"You miss him don't you?"He asked. His gaze turned to hers. She simply nodded.
Arcee felt coolant fall down her cheeks as her silence answered her leader's question. Her spark ached for Cliffjumper, she would never get over one of the biggest loses in her life. Like Tailgate, Cliffjumper had captured her attention and then he was torn away from her spark as well. How could she not miss Cliffjumper? He had been the love of her life. Optimus surely must have known how close they were before that fatal day.
Optimus placed his servo on her cheek, his fingers wiping away the tears as the slid down the heated metal. He murmured, "I am still very sorry for loss. I wish there was some way I could make the pain go away."
"Optimus it isn't-"She tried to retort but Prime placed his hand over her mouth. He whispered, "As Leader, every loss in battle is my fault. He was a fine soldier and an even better mech. To lose him this late in the war was one of the biggest things that we had to face."
He removed his hand from her mouth. She could only watch as she saw the clear signs of grief replace his once peaceful expression. His optics remained on hers for the longest time. In them, she saw the burdens that he had to carry as the leader of the Autobots, as Prime. Suddenly, her grief felt insignificant to how large his must have been.
Optimus' expression shifted from sadness to slight mischief. His blue optics glowed and he smirked. He muttered,"You may want to look up Arcee."
"What do you mean?" Arcee questioned while she did as she was told. She glimpsed a small mistletoe hanging from his hand as he held it above her head. She ejaculated, "Oh!"
Without any warning, Optimus crushed his lips against in a passionate kiss. Arcee felt herself melt from the sudden intrusion.
They broke apart for a klik and Optimus chuckled," The humans have some of the strangest traditions, including this 'Christmas' one. I believe as they say, 'Merry Christmas' Arcee."
"Merry Christmas Optimus."
