Elena and Stefan walked into the Grille, smiling softly at each other. They sit at a booth and grab menus, occasionally looking at each other over the top of them. Matt comes over, takes out his pen and notepad and raises his blonde eyebrows at the couple.

Matt sighs and says, "What can I get for you guys?"

Elena smiles and pushes some strands of hair behind her ear. "Just a burger and some fries."

Matt jots that down before asking her if she wants something to drink.

"Uh. A coke." Elena smiles at him and Matt nods at her, then walks to the kitchen.

Stefan looks at Elena as she watches Matt walk away. "Do you want me to go play some darts or head to the bathroom while you talk to him?"

Elena looks at the guy sitting across from her and feels a rush of joy that such a wonderful guy is hers. She nods her head, her features softening as she puts her right hand on her neck and places her left arm on the table in front of her.

"Yeah. I think that would be best." Stefan nods his understanding and heads to the dartboard.

A little while later, Matt comes back with their drinks. As he places the drinks on the table, he tells Elena that her food would be out in a minute. She nods her head and as he begins to walk away, Elena puts her hand on his arm.

"Can we talk?"

Matt looks at the girl before him and he wants to say no. He wants to say that they haven't talked in weeks and he kind of doesn't want to anymore. He wants to tell her that there's too much going on in his life to entertain anything she has to say. But as he continues to look into her eyes, he feels his resolve soften and he nods his head. As he takes the seat Stefan vacated, he clasps his hands on the table, raises his eyebrows expectantly and asks, "What's up?"

Elena pushes her hair behind her ears and lets out a breath. "I want to make sure you're okay."

Matt furrows his brows and says, "What makes you think I'm not?"

"Well, we don't really talk anymore since..."

"Since you dumped me and your parents died and you started dating Stefan."

Elena cringed. "Yeah."

"Elena, I made my peace with me and you a long time ago. I mean, yeah. It hurt like hell for a really long time, and sometimes it still does. But I'm over it, I'm over you. I mean, I'll always love you, 'cause you're my friend. But you're with Stefan now, and you're happy. Happier than you ever were with me."

Elena looks at the table guiltily. "Matt, you know I loved you, but after my parents..." Elena takes a deep breath and looks up at Matt. "Everything was different. And then Stefan came along and he helped me through it. And I love him." Elena looked at Matt apologetically.

Matt leans back and looks at Elena, taking in the long brown hair, the slim shoulders, the blue long sleeved shirt and sighs. "I know Lena. I know." He gives her a rueful smile and says "I'm happy for you." He gives Elena's hand a squeeze.

"I gotta go back to work, but you enjoy your date. I'll bring out your food in a sec." And with that, Matt gets out of the booth and heads toward the kitchen.

Once Matt disappears into the kitchen, Stefan comes over from the dartboard and slide into the booth. "Everything okay?"

" 's okay."

"Matt's a good 'll find someone."

"He deserves it. I mean, if I can find someone who makes me happy, Matt can."

Stefan grabs her hand and smiles at her. "Your kind heart is one of the biggest reasons I love you."

"I love you too."

The couple lean over the tabletop and kiss. At this moment, Matt comes with Elena's burger and fries. Stefan gives a nod to the blonde, which he returns. Elena starts in on her food.
