This was a drabble request from Cls2011 on tumbler from a black & white gif that I posted. Good call!
She was busy studying him one small bit at a time. Today, it was his left shoulder, as she let her fingers drift lazily over it again and again. The feel of skin and muscle burning into her fingertips. The silvery line of a scar a jagged reminder of years lost. His own hand was settled on her hip, thumb reaching down to trace against her belly, just barely brushing the edge of the slight swell now showing.
Watching his face for a reaction, "You do know it may very well be a girl."
Eyes impossibly light flicked up to catch her gaze. "Of course." He grinned idly. "One that looks exactly like her mother." He dropped a kiss on the end of her nose.
She chuckled, glancing away to watch her tracing fingers. The slight hint of a freckle right there. She memorized it, before leaning forward to plant an open-mouthed kiss on his shoulder, her tongue catching the sharpness of salt on his skin from their recent exertions. "As long as you aren't disappointed."
"Never." He shifted to press closer against her, his abdomen pressing firmly against the gentle swell of hers. "How could I ever be? I just can't believe it is all real, and now…" He trailed off, glancing down to where his palm sought to nestle between them, cupping the evidence of their growing child. "I guess, it just feels even more so," he murmured.
"Thank you," she said dryly. "As the one who has had suffer the very real nausea and blinding headaches these past few months, I'm glad to have your assurance it is real after all."
He looked up quickly, concern on his face. "I didn't mean —" A lingering kiss on her lips as apology. "If there was any way I could have suffered them instead of you."
"Mmm, I'll have to look into that for next time."
His eyes glinted at her. "Next time?"
She blushed and tried to wiggle away from his now searching hand. "Always so impatient."
He was nibbling as her lower lip now. "You said it, not me." A long, searching kiss that left them both breathless. "But you are feeling better now? I hate to think you lured me out of the drawing room early tonight if you weren't." His trail of kisses began to wander dawn her neck.
Her cheeks warmed even more, along with the rest of her. "Well, possibly there may be some more, ah, side-effects to be endured."
He lifted his gaze to look at her alarmed. "You didn't say. Do —"
She silenced him with a seeking kiss of her own. "I've only recently been informed, and only just now… well, experienced what may be to come for the next few months."
"Months?"
She nodded, smiling at the growing panic in his eyes. "The rest of the pregnancy in fact," she murmured, shifting to glide a foot up and down his calf, an unspoken hint to him he knew all too well. Panic was quickly being replaced with confusion. "Oh course, if you were serious about suffering along with me, I think this could actually be quite the tolerable side-effect."
Her body was already tumbling once again down that path of desperate need for his touch. She raised her brows at him until she saw the dawning understanding in his face at her teasing words, her familiar touch.
A low chuckle that rumbled against her and did nothing to slow the race of her once again growing desire. "Oh, absolutely. Whatever I can do to ease your burden, darling. Whatever I can do."
