Quick Author's Notes: I watched episode sixteen a few days ago. Hikaru is so angsty…and d'aww, HikaruxHaruhi is so cute X3

My fics are always around 340 words...I hope it doesn't bother anyone that they're so short...

Maybe

This, Hikaru realized, was much more difficult than it seemed.

He had only known love between his brother. There was no need for words or awkward conversation because Kaoru knew everything about him; everything. He knew all of Hikaru's fears. He knew what Hikaru really wanted. He knew what Hikaru really thought.

Hikaru never had to talk about feelings. He never told anyone what troubled him, save for Kaoru. But he didn't need to speak to Kaoru to tell him; all Hikaru needed to do bury his face in Kaoru's neck, and Kaoru would wrap his arms around him and whisper things. Then it was okay.

Haruhi...didn't know what was going on in Hikaru's mind. She could only guess, and although she usually guessed correctly, there were incidents when she was wrong. Haruhi was completely new to Hikaru. He suddenly needed to do things he's never done before. He had to tell Haruhi what was going on because she didn't know, and she couldn't read his mind like Kaoru could.

Tamaki wore his heart on his sleeve. He cried when he was sad and smiled when he was happy. He wasn't afraid to talk about feelings with Kyouya.

Hikaru didn't know how to speak, really. Haruhi would touch his hand and he would flinch, feel the urge to run away. But she'd give a soft smile and he would relax, just a tiny bit, for her sake. Haruhi was tired of him running, he knew. But he couldn't help it. It was his instinct to run away when encountering uncharted territory.

Hikaru wondered what Kaoru would do.

"If I had to say, Kaoru is calmer and more rational than you are."

Kaoru would be okay with it...wouldn't he?

Hikaru didn't know. It was all so difficult. He didn't like not knowing.

But that was the point, he realized. Haruhi was always there when he came back. She was always willing to try again...because, maybe, she did understand, and maybe, she could tell what was wrong, and maybe she did know...everything...about him.

And maybe, Haruhi could help him finally speak.
