Yumihiko was sitting at the bottom steps of the courthouse. His father was just made found guilty. Even though Yumihiko stood up to him he still felt sad, that he was going away.
"I thought I'd find you here," a woman said. Yumihiko turned to see Franziska von Karma at the top of the steps carrying something.
"Hey," he said. Franziska made his way down to him.
"Ice Cream?" she asked giving him one. He obliged. "How are you holding up?" She asked.
"I don't know, Miss von Karma," Yumihiko said. "I'm glad justice was brought unto a criminal but."
"You wish it wasn't your father," Franziska finished up for him. Yumihiko nodded. "Yumi I know what you're going through."
"I guess," Yumihiko said. "How'd you manage to get over it?"
"To be honest, it still hurts," Franziska said. "You can't forget someone like your father despite what he did."
"He called me so many names," Yumihiko said giving a sad smile. "He may have killed my mother, but I still going to miss him."
"Still you stood up to him in court," Franziska said. "That takes guts."
"I was still humiliated," Yumihiko said staring to cry.
"You're a crybaby, but a good kid," Franziska said rubbing his back. "I've known you since we were kids, and you well you got taller."
"How does that make me feel better?" he said.
"I'm still new at this myself, but I think you'll manage," Franziska said.
"How'd you start?"
"It helped that he was already in jail when I started to change," Franziska admitted. "Also I had some people help me."
"Mr. Edgeworth?" Yumihiko asked licking his ice cream.
"Yes and a foolish defense attorney," Franziska said licking her own ice cream. "It had a high price to start it though."
"Like?" Yumihiko inquired.
"Getting shot," Franziska said plainly. Yumi shot up when he heard that.
"You were shot?" he yelled.
"I'm fine nothing serious," Franziska said. "Although I wish that it didn't happen. But that helped me change."
"You don't seem that different," Yumihiko noted.
"Maybe but these things take time," Franziska added. "Remember most of my life I was taught to be perfect in every way. It was frustrating at times."
"Right," Yumi said. "I wasn't taught all that but I still had it hard."
"Yumi," Franziska started. "What are you going to do?"
"I really don't know," Yumihiko said looking at his ice cream.
"Remember when you stood up to your father," she asked. Yumihiko nodded. "I left so you could do it on your own."
"Mr. Edgeworth helped," Yumihiko stated.
"But you got to your father own your own," Franziska said. "I don't think that I could have managed that."
"Both of our fathers were scary weren't they?" he asked. Franziska nodded.
"Yeah," she said. "Scary indeed."
"Did your father try to kidnap you?"
"No," Franziska said. "But it wasn't like I was a free girl." She pulled up her sleeve revealing a scar from one of her beatings.
"Ooh," Yumihiko said when he saw it.
"It wasn't always pretty," Franziska said.
"And you're still strong," Yumihiko said.
"Again I had help," Franziska said. "Don't let someone intimidate you Yumi."
"Easier said then done," Yumihiko said. "I messed up so bad."
"And you managed to retrieve the evidence that put two criminals," Franziska smiled. "You got what it takes for the job."
"You think?"
"For someone so young, yes," Franziska said.
"But you were younger than me when you started."
"And I had a weight on my shoulders, your has been lifted," Franziska said. She got up. "Come on."
"Where are we going?" Yumihiko asked as he got up.
"Your office so you can start your path," Franziska said. And for the first time Yumihiko gave a pure smile following Franziska down their paths away from that that their fathers started. And together they finished their ice cream.
