~~~~~DON'T LET GO~~~~~
"Now, children," Ms. Miller said to the 3 pairs of chipmunks and chipettes. "be careful in crossing the road. Watch out for the cars. You might get hit!"
"Sure thing, Ms. Miller." The red cap wearing chipmunk said as he crossed the road with his eyes closed.
"Alvin! Watch out!" The pink cladded chipette shrieked.
"SIMON!!!!!!!" The eyeglass-wearing chipette yelled. Eleanor closed her eyes and turned away."Simon...no...." tears formed in her eyes and dropped on the pavement.
"This is all your fault!!!" Brittany yelled at her male counterpart. "If you hadn't been crossing absent-mindedly, this shouldn't have happened!!!!"
Surprisingly, Alvin was just taking it all in. No comebacks, no bickering, no.....anger. Nope. Not at all. He was just staring at the scene laid out before him, barely minding the bickering chipette beside him. There it was before him. Hugging his unconscious body close to hers, weeping ever so silently.
"Hello?!" A wave of a hand interrupted him. "Are you even listening?!" the voice yelled. "No, you aren't!! You dullwitted, no-good, heck of a.....jerk." Her voice slowly died down as she followed the boy's gaze. Even as Brittany's heart was moved with pity, she was hesitant to go forward.
"Jeanette...?" she tried to call out, but all that came out was a muffled whisper.
"I think," the red cladded boy placed a hand on her shoulder and motioned for her to keep distance. "we should give them some time."
Slowly, people started gathering around them as Jeanette managed to drag Simon's figure to the sidewalk where the people crowded.
"Oh, Simon..." she whispered in between whimpers. The crowd's hearts were moved with pity as the scene played before them. Some were holding the tears back. Some were already crying. And still others, just stared. They could hear the sobbing of the young girl. Among all the 5 left, Jeanette was the one who was hurt the most about the accident.
Now this time, some were already crying, others crying harder and the rest were struggling to keep the tears from flowing, as the young chipette did what she should've done if only if she knew that this would happen.
She laid down his fragile form on the cemented ground and knelt down at his side. She placed her hand in his and silently said:
"Don't let go, Simon. Don't let go." She gently bent down and pressed her lips against his. After what seemed to be like hours, his hand gently squeezed hers. She parted and smiled as the studious chipmunk slowly opened his eyes and sat up.
"What happened?" he slowly managed to say. She threw herself at him and held in an embrace. Though shocked, he hugged back with much pleasure.
"I knew you wouldn't let go." Tiny beads of water rolled down her cheeks.
"Not for you, I won't. Not for you." Simon said, not minding the expectantly watching audience. He crashed his lips against hers.
