So, I'm actually uploading something. That's a new one for me as I've spent most of my time on this website just creeping around, reading other people's stories – you know the drill.
Hawaii Five-0 is a bit of guilty pleasure of mine. When I need a little break from my studies, I find that this is fun show to put on. I just recently saw 'Ina Paha' (5x07), so this is in a little look into Steve's state of mind at the very end of the episode. Hope you enjoy!
I've done my best to proofread, but English is not my first language so it's entirely possible I've missed something. Let me know if I missed something and I'll do my best to correct my mistakes.
Summary: "His father is alive and dead and alive and dead and alive and dead all at the same time, and he doesn't know what is true anymore." Drabble. 'Ina Paha', 5x07.
His memories are bleeding together in a swirling mess until he can't separate them anymore. He feels like he's lived two sets of lives at the same time and that just can't be right, and until he can confirm one lifetime over the other neither are real and both are true.
Schrodinger's cat indeed.
The girl scouting ahead - Kono, some small voice at the back of his mind supply - she is four times world champion in surfing. But that can't be right. She is here, in a bulletproof vest to boot, so she must be some sort of cop. Somehow in his poor, abused mind the two scenarios don't quite line up...
Or maybe it is the other way around, maybe this is the fake memory. Maybe he isn't even awake, not really, and that poor girl who just wants to surf has been dropped into this hellhole by his fried-up brain.
Maybe she simply doesn't exist.
He is not sure.
The man on his left accidently jostles his bleeding arm and he hisses in pain. He feels a passing pang of satisfaction that he shot Wo Fat. But then again; he's done that before, right? So which time is real? Is either of them?
The sensation of wet drops trailing down his aching chest momentarily distracts him from his musings. Is he drowning? Or perhaps the water is a figment of his imagination too. Is anything actually real at this point? His father is alive and dead and alive and dead and alive and dead all at the same time, and he doesn't know what is true anymore.
"Hey, Buddy," a voice calls in his ear. Danny. He seems to feature as a cop in all his memories, so that must be right. He anchors himself to that knowledge even as he idly notes Danny's shirt is not nearly flowery as it should be. "Hey, are you with us? It's okay. We got you. You're safe, you're fine."
Steve wishes he can believe him.
