Goodbye

By: Megori

Author Note: Been a while since I really decided to write anything so please let me know of any grammatical errors or descriptive errors on my part. I really need to write more often. Plus, it's been a while since I've written such a short oneshot. Well, I just hope you can at least somewhat enjoy this anyway.

Disclaimer: Roxas and Axel as well as all other characters of Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts itself belongs rightfully to Square Enix and Disney. I do not claim any of it to be mine.

Warnings: Slight shounen-ai present in this oneshot but nothing too dramatic. I'm going for something more fluff and angst and a lot less hardcore...stuff.

The small framed blond boy stared blankly toward the slowly rising sun as his legs dangled over the ledge of the clock tower. He sighed heavily, as if some enormous problem was weighing him down.

"Roxas?"

The boy turned to face the owner of the voice. His bright steel blue eyes fell upon the flaming red haired man approaching him. Roxas smiled feebly to his oncoming friend. "Oh, Axel..."

Axel sat down next to his blond friend. "What's wrong? Looks like something's bothering you."

"Oh, no, not really." Roxas replied, turning his gaze back to the colorful rising sun. "I was just thinking..."

"Thinking?"

"Yeah," Roxas replied, turning to smile at Axel once more. His eyes brightened.

Axel, too, smiled back. Every time he saw Roxas smile genuinely as such, he couldn't help but smile back.

"Before I left the Organization, do you remember what you said to me?" Roxas asked, his gaze returning to the sun. His hands gripped the edge tightly as his legs continued dangling.

Axel turned away, somewhat embarrassed. There was absolutely no way he could reply to such a question.

"You said you'd miss me, remember?" Roxas replied, several moments later, interrupting their peaceful silence.

Axel nodded. "I did say that. And, I really did miss you. Sometimes, even though we meet like this, I still miss you." After saying that, Axel's cheeks flushed and he attempted to hide them behind his black overcoat.

"Yeah," Roxas replied. "This is the last day we'll be able to meet like this."

Unable to say anything back, Axel allowed the silence to overcome them again.

"I'm sorry Axel. Because I wasn't powerful enough, you..."

"Don't," Axel interjected. His face showed not a single sign of regret. "I'd do that thousand times more if I had to, so long as you remained alive, even if it's just as a part of someone else. You're still alive and that is what's important to me."

Tears slowly began to appear on the edge of Roxas's eyes. "Axel..."

"I said it before, didn't I? We'll meet each other again," Axel stated, smiling weakly to his companion. "This goodbye isn't forever Roxas."

Roxas wiped the tears from his eyes as he turned to face Axel one last time. "Yeah, you're right."

Axel placed his gloved hand over Roxas's and gave him a reassuring squeeze. As over half the sun emerged in the horizon, Axel leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on Roxas's forehead.

"You go on ahead first Roxas. Please," Axel whispered as he pulled himself and his hand away from the blond boy. His smile weakened, but his resolve only grew more firm. "Sora's waiting for your return too."

Roxas nodded silently. As the warmth of Axel's hand left his, Roxas moved into a standing position. Without looking back at Axel even once, Roxas leapt away upon the rooftops to the sleeping brunette to whom he actually was a part of.

As the sun fully rose over the horizon, tears fell from Axel's eyes. "Goodbye, Roxas..."

Axel gripped his black overcoat, angry at himself. Then, as if he never were there, Axel faded away into nothingness. The clocktower dinged loudly as the darkness was finally overcome by the awakening sun and once again, silence fell upon the small town.
