Empty Bliss

A/N: This will be a series of one-shots inspired by various exchanges between Hitomi & Ein/Hayate. I've always been intrigued to wholly piece together their connection.

Her eyes hold a volatile gleam, scrutinizing his visage to decipher his exact thoughts. Staring back, he strikes a dare as he advances towards her. Wary of how skilled Hitomi is at reading gesticulations, he tries to conceal the anxiety threatening to strike every muscle that defines his body.

His eyes linger on her lips as she pants, a puff of breath bleeding past them and into the frigid air. Then he realizes and admires the brilliancy exercise has done to her complexion.

His eyes tear away from her when she sends a severe blow to his face. Cheek stinging, he blinks indifferently, turning to face her again. Perhaps his eyes had been intruding.

His throbbing face is a burning reminder of Hitomi's surprising vigor. The rare occasions when she had triumphed over him in sparring matches suddenly overcomes him. He'd almost forgotten how strong she really was.

Becoming aware of an approaching aircraft, his reminiscent thoughts shatter. Currently, every possible attention might be paid to the lacerated girl in his arms. Hitomi stood by in her own silent indignation, too engrossed in her troubled thoughts, wishing to conclude as to what had happened between her and Ein that now made him a complete stranger to her.

A/N: This scene is inspired from Monty Oum's Dead Fantasy III. I decided to explore it a little and hope you enjoyed my interpretation.
