Oh, what good is it to live
With nothing left to give
Forget, but not forgive
Not loving all you see
All the streets you're walking on
A thousand houses long
Well, that's where I belong
And you belong with me
Not swallowed in the sea
---Swallowed in the Sea-Coldplay
He stood there, not moving, barely breathing. He replayed the scene over and over in his head, not knowing what to do.
Deciding that there wasn't much he could do, he stood outside staring up at her (not hers, theirs. They lived there.) second-floor balcony. The lights were still on, and he noticed a silhouette move across the window.
"Callie," he yelled. "I'm not leaving! I want to talk to you! I need you." He shouted, whispering the last sentence.
The figure emerged from the sliding glass door of the balcony. "You had your chance George. Go be with your precious Izzie!" She had been crying, he could tell even in the small light. Still, he couldn't believe what was happening, all those things he had said. George only prayed that she could find it somewhere in that huge heart of hers to forgive him.
"I won't leave." George sighed as he waited for a response. "Callie, I swear to God I won't leave." Thunder rumbled nearby. "Even if it storms."
Callie stared down at him. He looked up under the hood of his jacket. She couldn't stand to see him, couldn't stand to see those big blue-green eyes staring hopefully and pitifully back up at her.
Rain started coming down in small drops, increasing to a steady shower. He stood his ground, swallowing the lump in his throat and willing himself not to cry. "This can't be the end." He whispered looking down at the wedding band wrapped around his ring finger.
He heard faint footsteps over the pounding rain, and when he looked up, Callie was standing there. Squinting to make sure it was her, he jammed his hands in his pockets and began to shiver uncontrollably. "Do I at least get a chance?" he asked softly, his heart pounding faster and faster, just like the rain. He clenched his jaw, not only to stop his chattering teeth, but to keep from breaking down.
Callie stepped into the rain, coming closer to him. Her silky jet-black hair was soaked, and her cheeks were tear stained and mascara streaked. "You have two minutes." She simply stated. Just two minutes, not much, thought George.
"I'm so sorry Callie," his tears mixed with the rain, "I'm sorry for ever choosing Izzie or Meredith over you. I'm sorry for ever doubting our marriage. I'm sorry that I've been such an ass." He moved closer to her until they were three inches apart. She was crying again, her tears flowing freely down her face.
He brought his thumb up to her face to wipe them away, caressing her cheek before moving his hands to her waist. She shook her head, "You don't need to be sorry, I was being…insecure. I just thought that you would someday choose Izzie over me and then…" He brought a finger to her lips. "I just can't not be with you Callie. It kills me inside to see you like this, and I wanted to make it clear that if it ever comes down to choosing one of you, I pick you. Just remember that, Callie Iphigenia Torres, I will always pick you."
A smile came across her face. "I love you George O'Malley." He pulled her into his embrace, wrapping his arms around her and resting his chin on her shoulder. She was shivering too, but to him it didn't matter. They were together, they were okay. He knew that they faced a long road, but he realized that with her, everything would be all right.
