Chapter 1

A tiny kit breathed in and out. Her little eyes had not yet opened. She mewed for her mother's milk and it was given to her. She crawled about trying to find a friend, with the large effort she grew tired and fell asleep.

There will be four, ones who will carry the burden of elements. They will battle evil, and will remove the corruption that comes ahead. The voice rang in the kit's ears even after she woke up. She opened her eyes to see the world as it was, happy. "Crescentkit!" called a voice from across the nursery. It was a little orange kit. "Great you're awake! Now we can play moss ball!" Crescentkit blinked slowly to get the blurriness out of her eyes and saw the cat a little better.
"Foxkit it's you!" she mewed. "I couldn't see who that was for a second." Foxkit rolled her eyes and helped Crescentkit up. The two ran into the clearing where it was nice and warm. They grabbed the moss ball and tossed it about, batting it and pretending it was an enemy warrior. At one point two more kits came out of the nursery.
"You didn't come to get us? You know this is our favorite game!" shouted a little dark orange kit with fox-like resemblance. Crescentkit put the ball down and said, "Sorry Russetkit, I didn't know you wanted to play." The other kit was a orange-brown marbled kit. She ran over and took the ball.
"Let's play!" she called out. She batted the ball hard towards Foxkit, who got knocked over by the impact. "Highkit!" she squealed. Highkit looked pleased.
"That'll teach you for playing moss ball without your sister!" she said. Foxkit got up and the four kept playing.

The freshkill was in the middle of the clearing, the four kits ate little bits of it at a time. Crescentkit shared a mouse with Russetkit, and the twins ate a shrew together. Crescentkit couldn't stop thinking about that weird dream she had, who gave her that scary message?
"Hey guys," she said. "Have you had weird dreams recently?" Highkit looked at Crescentkit.

"Actually yes," she said. "There was a creepy voice that said some ominous message."
Russet kit said, "You too? I've had that dream myself!" Foxkit nodded to the other kits in acknowledgement.
"What should we do?" asked Crescentkit. "Should we tell Treeheart? She is the medicine cat, maybe she can figure out what it means." The other kits nodded and kept eating.

"So what do you think Treeheart?" asked Crescentkit. "I've been having this dream repeatedly for at least a moon along with my friends." Treeheart swished her tail to silence the kit.
"I will speak with Dovestar, this may be an omen. StarClan has spoken through you and your friends," she said. The little kit was confused. She wondered if she would have the dream again, to help it make sense.

Crescentkit heard voices from a little farther off, she padded towards them. There was a small opening that looked like the entrance to the leader's den. She walked in, not knowing what to expect. She heard the voices again, this time louder. She opened her eyes and saw cats with starry pelts, StarClan. They all said the same message:

StarClan is calling you... do not be afraid.

Crescentkit was very afraid, she didn't know what these cats wanted. StarClan was calling her. What did they want? The voices got louder and louder, until it was all she could hear until thunder and lightning ripped through the dreamscape. The dream ended with a final soft voice:

Go forth Crescentkit, defend the Clans.
