Fire, Earth, Wind, Water. The elements raged outside, innocent bystanders were blown or washed away, burnt to a crisp, or fell to their death as the Earth crumbled below.

Under moist tightly packed dirt, a few kids and their parents hid from the blazing hell above.

The place they once they once home.

"Mommy? I'm scared mommy! What's going on?"

The toddler clung to her mother's clothes weeping. Her mother cried softly. "I-I know Sandy. I'm scared too."

"Where daddy, Mama?"

"Stanly. Sweetheart. He's- He's not coming h-home!"

She spoke through her tears.

"Why not, mama? Is he talking with his friends?"

"No. He's just taking a nap. A nice. Long nap."

"Okay, mama. A nice long nap."

Their mother hadn't the heart to tell her sweet twin boy and girl that their father had died protecting them.

Don't' worry, honey. I'll keep them safe and I'll never stop loving you… I promise.

"Sara."

"Yes Nichole?" Sandy and Stan's mother answered looking quite questionable.

"I'm going to look."

Sara looked at her friend with surprise, "Nicky. We've been best friends since kindergarten. You promised we would always stay together! Stay best friends!"

Sara cried harder and whispered one word. A word that stung Nichole's heart and killed her on the inside.

"Sisters…"

Nichole looked at her two daughters. A new born and a toddler.

"I know. I know what I promised. But…"

"But…?" Sara asked dreading her best friends next set of words.

"Not all promises can be kept. And Sara, we can't live forever. I wish we could but we just can't. We will always be sisters. And I will always love you. But I need to know what's going on out there. If it does kill me… oh well. I've had a very long happy life! I had a three year old and a one year old! I had a wonderful husband who loved me so much. He sacrificed himself. What more could I ever want?"

"What more! What more! How about to see your kids grow up right before your eyes? How about to see their wedding day? To see your grandkids? To help them through their first relationship? Who's going to help them through their first boyfriend crisis?"

Nichole looked at her sadly. "You are."

Sara looked shocked and took a step back.

"Me! I can't do that! They already know who you are they're not going to forget! Especially not her!" Sara screamed pointing out her three year old.

Nichole walked to Sara and put her hands on her shoulders.

"Sara. I need you to protect Pashmina and Penelope. If you love me enough, you will please do that for me?"

Sara looked at her. Finally she nodded.

"I love you, Nichole."

"I love you too, Sara."

Nichole bent down to Pashmina and Penelope's height and looked in their eyes. Well Pashmina's eyes. Penelope was resting in Pashmina's eyes. Pashmina was awfully mature for her age.

"Now girls. Mommy is going to do something bad. It's a big no-no. Please don't ever do it. I love you and remember that." Nichole kissed them each on the cheek and smiled.

Nichole walked down the small tunnel and peeked her head out. Suddenly she screamed and her lifeless body dropped to the ground. Her head no longer on her body. Sara turned Pashmina away and covered her twin's eyes. The fire must have burnt it off. But now what would Sara do with her older 'sisters' body?

Finally Sara turned all the kids to the wall and lifted Nichole's body. This was very hard for Sara to do but it must be done. She threw the body through the hole and fire burnt it to ash. The wind blew the ash into the tunnel and Sara frowned.

Goodbye, Nichole…
