Disclaimer: I do not own Lizzie McGuire.

Summary: Lizzie hasn't seen Gordo or Miranda in twelve years. When they meet up by chance, will it restore old feelings or will their friendship be ruined forever?

Chapter One: Did you say Miranda Sanchez?

"You will be defending Jacob Torres. He is accused of hit and run in a parking lot of a grocery store. There are many witnesses, yet he denies it. Are you up for the challenge, Miss McGuire?" Mrs. Lang asked.

Elizabeth McGuire looked up from her desk. "Yes, sure."

"Here is his folder," Mrs. Lang added.

"Could you also get me the folder of the woman of whose car he hit? I like to study my opponent before I go up against them," Miss McGuire said.

"Okay," Mrs. Lang said and left the room.

Miss McGuire looked through the defendant's folder. He was 29 years old, a mere 2 years older than Miss McGuire. He had personally asked for Miss McGuire as his lawyer. Miss McGuire smiled, and then found herself frowning.

She was a very successful lawyer. Her nearly five years of law school had paid off. But something was missing. No doubt her father was, as he had passed away a year earlier, but something bigger was gone. Something that had been missing for many years.

Miss McGuire, better known as Elizabeth, Liz, or even at times, Lizzie, knew what was missing in her heart, but refused to acknowledge it in her brain.

She had been seventeen. Dating the love of her life. Her best friend was always there for her. She had a good life. But suddenly everything changed.

Her best friend found out about a family secret she never knew of. She flipped out and left home right after graduation. Lizzie got a small note from her best friend and never heard from her again. This made Lizzie very upset.

So upset, she didn't realize how much he loved her. Yes, he, her boyfriend. He was very smart, even getting into Yale. But he didn't want to go. He wanted to stay with Lizzie. So he proposed to her, wanting to always be with her. And she said no. She didn't want him to give up his future for her. He, being very displeased with this, said some harsh things to Lizzie and went to Yale.

Lizzie was left alone. She went to college for law, and became a lawyer at the age of 23. She took time out of her career to take care of her sick father, which only lead to more disappointment.

Yet, now she was here. As successful as the nest lawyer. But unhappy. Very unhappy. Though you would never know. Miss McGuire always had a smile on, even at times in the courtroom.

Miss McGuire was so into her thoughts, she didn't even notice Mrs. Lang come back.

"Miss McGuire? Miss McGuire?"

Startled, she said, "Oh, I'm sorry Helen. What is it?"

"I've got the file you wanted. The plaintiff's name is Miranda Sanchez. She is 27 years old and-"

"Wait, what did you say?" Miss McGuire suddenly sat up. "Did you say Miranda Sanchez?"

"Yes," Mrs. Lang said. "Someone you know?"

"Someone I know?" she screeched. "Someone I know? Ofcourse it's someone I know! Miranda Sanchez was my best friend!"
